I am thinking about buying a new car for my wife. I was thinking about a 10k budget. Now i dont have any cash at the moment but could raise 2k in a few months. What would be the best way to finance this? HP, Loan....? I would like to pay it back over 3-5 years. I know the financial sector is up the spout, but this sort of lending is still about. I am a homeowner, but don't want to secure against my house. So ladies and gents you thoughts please....?

there is prob no right or wrong way - why don't you want to secure against your house? that would set alarm bells ringing if i were a lender.
Surely the only people who need to secure a personal loan for 10k are those seen as a poor credit risk?

You could we yourself to a thousand fat chicks for £10 a time or 10 really fat chicks for £1000 a time.

Fat chicks need love too, but they gotta pay!

Often thought highway robbery would be fun...

Find a quiet back lane near a camp site...wait for the caravan pulling vehicle to arrive, and hold it up at gun point..then remove all the precious goods..money etc and go to back of caravan and get on motor bike. Easy escape down the lanes.

And in the summer most of the area near me is full of caravans carrying happy, cash rich tourists to their destination....

Obviously this is a spur of the moment reply and not thought out in any way what so ever......smile

so just a straight up loan then... i thought i might get a better deal on finance, perhaps offering extended warrenty, or free insurance etc etc. I know that second hand car dealers are on there arses at the moment, is this something they are wiling to do at the moment? Or will i just be getting a better deal by getting the car cheap cheap cheap...?
I was thinking of a C-Max or Jazz, but i don't know how big the Jazz is in the "real world". I don't want it secured against the house as i don't need too as its not a huge amount of cash, and its a personal thing....

So still a loan?

Think this is about the best unsecured rate you'll find for that sort of amount. Easy application process as well.

As said before, if you haven't got £10k, why not buy a cheaper car? Or does she need a £10k car for some reason?

Used car values are very low at the moment - £11k gets you a 2005 5 series BMW Diesel!!

Nope, still a good car for £2k with no loan whatsoever.

its just an amount we both feel comfortable with..... but it might be less as the markets come down... Got a little one on the way we think......

Allllrigghtt.....giggidy.

Seriously though, DONT waste 10k on a car at the moment, through a loan, when the market is swamped with 2-4k bargins.

Buy in cash, buy what you can afford.

If buying from a dealer they will have funders in place that can help..

they will have loans secured on vehicles and if pushed can get down to flat rates around 3.5%
