xbox 360 faulty again !

So after the 8th xbox in a year (I know I know!) we buy the Lego Batman game and power up the system.
after two game plays the message on screen says Disc is unreadable.
Upon checking the disc there is two perfect etched circles on the disc now and the £40 is useless so ring Microsoft and they want £10 to replace the disc !
Is anyone else having these problems ?
The Xbox appears seriously flawed !
Thinking of getting rid of it for good now as this is a total con !

How are you killing so many Xboxes? Do you beat it about with a large stick while leaving it on 24 hours a day wrapped in a big towel with a hotair fan on it?

I look after the equipment very well and do not beat it at all!
The xbox's all had additional fans in them and they are kept clean.
Just been told that the xbox can overheat and this causes the drive to 'flex' causing the damage.
Get it repaired then sell it and buy a new one. Sounds silly, but the reason it keeps failing is because MS send out reconditioned units for warranty repairs/ replacements, and they don't seem to be able to cure the RROD outright so it will always fail again eventually.
Or, buy a PS3, they are much better built.

I know what you mean.The Gaming experience when the 360 works is excellent but they appear poor quality when compared to the PS3.
I've pounded mine for 3 years and its never missed a beat. No doubt it will now die in a cloud of fiery smiting wrath the next time I switch it on, but if you've gone through 8 with extra Fans I'd suggest you sack whoever's putting in the extra Fans!

Sorry OP - but glad to here the comments on here. I nearly bought an XBOX last night but switched at the last minute and bought a PS3.
Seems pretty expensive and Grand Theft is annoying me a little bit - but at least I don;t have to deal with these problems.

I dont even use the machine a lot , approx 3 hours to 5 hours a week.
The Cheek of it is that you have to pay them £10 for each game damaged by the xbox yet if the xbox is faulty they will repair it free under the new warranty policy !
So I have a £40 game turn into a £50 game and this can go on and on !
I think its PS3 time now.

Scratching of disks is a well known issue and it does happen (and hence that is why Microsoft has a mechanism for dealing with them). Most people know about the failing units too, but the overall reliability is shocking.
There was a report that seemed to suggest that around 1/3 of all XBOX360's failed. In no other market could you get away with that sort of failure rate. Microsoft might think that they are getting away with this, since they keep selling units, but their figures are slowing quickly and the price drop improved things but its dropped off again. Its a good platform, but people have long memories and I doubt that customers will fall for this one again.
What bugs me about this is that Microsoft could resolve this. They knew about the failing units before they shipped the first unit! They also knew about the scratching disks but didn't do anything. Only when they are slaughtered in the press do they do something. Typical Microsoft attitude, but they don't seem to want to fix it....

Im with you on this totally!
The Xbox IS actually a Good gaming experience but its quite clear the system itself if flawed and they are still getting away with the poor quality systems.
I guess many people will put up with this and not complain and as a result the xbox will always have a market share.
Shame really as they could fix the problem.
I think my network has a virus now !(this is a joke by the way!) My mates just had the ring of death ! The Boxes know we are talking about them ! haha!
