Diagnosing a slight misfire
Discussion
Perhaps describing it as a misfire is a little excessive, more a little cough at exactly 2k in an outwise smooth rev-range. I've ignored it for ages but driving somebody else's baby's-arse-smooth 4.2 has spurred me into action to do something about it.
Not sure where to start, though. The tappets have just been done (cough present both before and after), plus new plugs all round and a pair of new throttle pots. Diag shows everything normal (both TPs at 15.something at idle, adaptives negative high teens) Which leads me to think coil packs or ignition leads - any other suggestions?
On balance, I'd maybe suspect the latter, because a faulty coilpack would probably cause trouble across the rev range(??).
Cheers in advance.
Oh, and as an aside, is it normal for a 4.2 on a standard map to be smoother and torquier than my jools-chipped 4.5 under 2.5k?

the 4.2s are always better than the 4.5s, remapping the 4.5 makes them much better but you still dont get 4.2 levels .. however it makes sense to make your 4.5 as good as poss so changing ht leads and coils is a good move anyway, theyre really service consumables on cerberas
Pretty much what I had gathered from reading this forum over the years. What I want to know is If I keep a spare set in my garage/airing cupboard/wherever will they deteriorate? The reason I ask is that it is never easy to find what you are looking for when you need it and are therefore at the mercy of the dealer/whoever for pricing and supply.I am seriously considering keeping some spares that I might need and that won't deteriorate if I store them for a few years....
