One Third Lie - Public Access?

Shouldn't we have a right to read the report on which the "33% of accidents are caused by speed" claim is based?

We've all heard the claim that a third of all accidents are caused by excess speed. Whilst many politicians are happy to dish out this propoganda whilst kissing babies, few of them have any idea where that statistic actually comes from.

The Transport Research Laboratory is the organisation that analyses road crash statistics and report number TRL 323 has been claimed as the basis of the 33% statistic by many.

Can the public read this report and make their own conclusions? No, it costs £25 a copy. Whilst the TRL have got to cover their costs, you'd think that an issue as important as this might yield a bit of flexibility in order to educate the public into the dangers of speeding - or otherwise.

The OneThirdLie.org.uk website has now challenged the TRL to open up the report for general download. So far, they've not responded. Check out the latest at www.OneThirdLie.org.uk
