ebay = often overpriced as good ones start bidding wars, at opposite end of scale rusty messes going for >£500 lol
autotrader = some of the better examples
mk1 owners club/club gti = some very genuine and loved cars and some good projects
trade it = some cheap ones more local to you.

Keep your eyes peeled, last one i nearly bought was just 3m from my house yet i had never seen it before an the owner had it for 10 years!
There are good ones around if you hunt hard enough.

I got mine from a chap in North Wales who had a pretty decent stock of cars. Sorry I can not remember the name of the company but the chap was called time and he was based near Wrexham.

I found his site from the MK1 Owners Club http://www.vwgolfmk1.org.uk/

Any excuse to get a picture up of the old girl:

The guy outside Wrexham trades as VolksDragon. He has the most inconspicuous 'garage' you'll ever come across but he really knows his mk1's.

Only about a half hour off the M6.

South Africa for a Citi golf?
If you want the better looking proper one though, try Golf+ mag classifieds, Edition 38, Club Gti, Pistonheads, etc.

Thats the name of the company I got my MK1 from.

inconspicuous is the key word!

I can highly recommend them. Tim (I believe he is called) was a knowledgeable chap and helped me through the purchase and after the purchase with advice and support.
