Chess (the game) any players out there?
Discussion
Watching this thread just reminded me about the game. I have helped grandchildren and friends the basics of how to play but I am useless at it
So any good/grandmasters on here?
Also does anyone collect boards/machines? I do have an old 1970's wooden electronic version here that numbers it the wrong way!

Like most on this thread, used to be reasonable about BCF 145. Got a few trophies gathering dust but haven't picked up a pawn in anger for over 15 years or more
Sadly computers have ruined all but face to face chess, as you find yourself playing a spotty geek using his university mainframe with terraflops of power running Fritz 12 in "crush him" mode. A modern chess program running on even the most basic PC can defeat almost anyone upto Master Level
You certainly lose it as you get older as well, I'd probably have trouble beating a casio watch on level 1 now. But I understand you can get back into quite well after a few weeks. When I retire in about 5 years assuming we still have free time and pensions, I might try dusting off the Staunton at out local club.
Nice to give a few whiper snappers a damnn good thrashing.
Sadly it's likely to be the other way round as the 8 year old creams the old fogey in about 10 moves!
There is quite a good site for chess computer collectors here

Some early boards are worth a lot of money and e-bay is your best outlet.
What make and model is your wooden machine? Does it work?

I am struggling to think of any other uses for the word chess that would have necessitated adding 'the game' to this thread title.
The unnecessary addition made me lose the game...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Game_(mind_game)

not sure how you would play that though other than if you had bought the DVD of the show...
) There was a thread ages ago about setting up a ph chess ladder but nothing ever came of it
