I was wondering if anyone has had a good or bad experience with the Torando chip. RPI did try to get me to have one fitted when I had some work done. I did'nt but would like to know if its worth it. My car seems to accelarate well, its a little hesitant below 2500-3000RPM on light throttle, then goes like a bullet after this. Is it normal to have a surge of power at full throttle around 3000RPM? Thanks

I had one before I went Emerald ECU and New Engine Loom.
I brought one with standard map on it and then went down to Austecs to have it fine tuned with Mark Adams and the difference was pretty amazing...Low end shunting you are on about was smoothed out and the power on tap seemed so much better and smoother. The only down point for me was that when ever modified the engine it would mean another trip down to Austecs for a session which can be a 6 hour round trip for me...and not fun roads either..
If your not planning to many mods in the future I would defiantly recommend it or at least a chat with Mark Adams about it, really nice Guy and knows his stuff smile

The whole point about remapping is to reduce the amount of fuel correction the ECU has to apply to keep the mixture in limits. Some of the snatching some cars show is when the ECU has hit its correction limit, and the car runs a little lean. A lot of the claims made for the Tornado refer to Range Rover mapping, as the TVR is already mapped for max power, so the improvements are limited.

I've never bought a 'standard' chip but I've had Mark Adams work his magic on my engine several times. Although the peak numbers don't change much, the engine felt quite a bit nicer to drive afterwards. But that's with the map set up to suit my particular engine, and I wouldn't really expect to get the same results just by putting a generic chip in, especially if Mark hasn't been over the engine first to make sure that everything else is working properly.

You have a pop at my wording Pete biggrin "standard" as in one mapped roughly for 5.0 ltr Griffith from I imagine Marks knowledge/database of 5 ltr maps smile

Not in the Griff, but had one in the 350i when the old ECU packed up. A huge improvement just by plugging it in, and another huge improvement after Mark had a play with it.

Tornado - I have had a number of problems and spent a lot of money trying to get fixes. All silly things like cut outs, hiccups, tick over, performance, pinking, etc. Those who know me will probably say I'm a bit of a perfectionist so although I have done 50k miles I have never been totally, totally happy....until now. I spent a day with Mark Adams, He diagnosed ...cut-outs + hiccups....wiring near coil in bad order, tick over......burnt out stepper chip on ecu, ....performance....1991 motherboard with 5L chip unhappy in a 1996 car and a very very slight crack in a pipe letting air in (took ages to find but he saw the problem on his PC). When he found it the BHP jumped 15%

I now have a car that has never run so well, with a bhp on just short of 300 and 246 at the wheels.....not bad for a 70k 1996 grif. Mark didn’t come cheap with the tornado chip and act induction kit ( as he pointed out, I didn’t need these but I was so impressed with his skill that I went a little wild...don’t tell the old trout)

Without doubt if I had gone to him 5 years ago I would have saved a fortune on stepper motors coils, leads and god knows what else. It’s worth a few hundred pounds to get him to check all the systems are working.

My car has always performed well giving a lot of models a good run for there money…..now…..well lets say I’m having fun with the Cerbs trying to run away…hahaha

Like others, I have always been very happy with Mark's work, I have the Tornado chip, ACT induction & plenum, Bosch injectors and a different cam and I get 325 bhp and 325 ft lbs torque, the car pulls away smoothly in traffic on a light throttle and idles perfectly. I'm sure I could get more out of it with a newer cam and Omex ignition & coil packs but I'm very happy woth it the way it is.

The way I see it is if you have an engine problem, and you cant fix it. Give him a call, if you can get hold of him! I did loads of mods to my engine (changed lower half to 5L from 4L, Induction mods, Stealth cam) and it ran like a dog. Just took it to Mark and drove it back as sweet as a nut biggrin Job done. I'm happy!

It seems like Mark is the man to get the best out of the V8, with or without the tornado chip. It would be interesting just to let him check out everything to see if everything is ok! How can I contact Mark?
