I spent all of today on a piece of work, finally finish it an hour ago, try to move it to my memory stick, apparently I hit the wrong button, and now it is gone. All of it, bar the first few lines, are gone.

Is there any way my computer-inept self can retrieve it?? It is rather important.

Wot was the piece of work arranged on (word?) and wot did you click on (delete?) and did you close the piece of work correctly before save, and/or did you open it just to transfer?

It was on word, saved, but when I tried to move it to my USB, I apparently clicked a button that reverted it to its state 8 hours ago. This was when I realised it was somehow wrong. Can I find it on my system somewhere or something like that???

My God man. Please ingest a dictionery and practice its contents forthwith. I am losing the will to live and fear that you may poison some of hallowed society. I pray that our learned friend DeRestrictor has not been exposed to such lament, and that you are able to make a speedy recovery from the ailment in which you are clearly suffering.

If you saved the document when you completed it, the only way to move it back to its previous state will have been to restore your PC using system restore - sounds like you didnt save it properly, or you saved it under a different filename

have you looked in the directory where the file was saved you may find file names the same but with a funny extension at the end normally contants $ signs, if so rename these files (make sure you change the first part as well) and change the extension to .doc

you should then be able to open these to see if they are any use.

I also concur, plus try using the standard OS search facility (enter file name) and simply search for all alternatives, then apply the aforementioned.

If it's in Word or Excel or Powerpoint, and you haven't closed out of the program, press Ctrl-Z repeatedly until it reappears.

If you had saved the file, and have now lost the contents, you might be able to get them back by using some of the better undelete programs. You can buy them online and download them and off you go. Try to do all that on a separate hard disk, though, if you can.
