Saw the news this morning, and apparently, undeterred by public opinion, Labour, sorry New Labour, are again targeting 'speed' as the root of all evil.

Undeterred by the facts, they're spouting statistics that support their cause. Now I'm not too bright, but I do know 98.47586% (or is it 97.535%?) of statistics are made up, and those that aren't are expressed in a misleading way, so why does the press seem to think we'll swallow this? - Or have they been TOLD?

Mad Tony beleives he can attach the same stigma to speeding, as we now have for drink driving, but he's way out of step with public opinion here. I mean who hasn't occasionally been in a bit of a rush, or busier watching the road than checking their exact[i/] speed?

Let's just hope the Anderson scandal sinks them. Yes the Anderon scandal, which is strangely 'under' reported in the press. Did anyone else hear about that one, or would you like the me to dish the dirt?

See the thread on Speeding & Plod - Speed Limiters. We're trying to get past the BBC pink/green filter and get some sensible comment on their web site

Dish the dirt Digga!.. oh.. ahh you mean the Arthur Andersen thing ? thought you mean another shafted motorist who is called Andersen

Well, they didn't kill or fiddle with any children (directly anyway) so i doubt most of the public will give a toss about it.. let's face it - it's beyond the comprihenshun of Sun/Star/Mirror faithful..

Which is a shame, because it really is a p155take of the highest order.

Anyone who's interested in this sort of corruption shold read The Captive State by George Monbiot to see what this poxy government gets away with..

btw John Humphreys gave some government muppet a right good grilling about this on Today (radio4) this morning..

oh - have you noticed how in all this they're being referred to as Andersens, but they rebranded a few months ago an now call themselves Accenture? Hmm..

just to add to this point - aren't the Drink driving figures going up again anyway, implying that campaign hasn't worked?

F*cking idiots, the lot of them.

For those of you whose regualar TV News/Newspaper, is too 'on-message' to make a fuss:

Anderson (sorry NOT Andersen, or Anderiods as they're known in consulting), you know, the 'creative' accountants. They were being sued by UK Gov't, to the tune of £210 Million for their role in another accounting adeventure; DeLorean motors.

Conservatives had refused to have any work done by the firm, who logically switched focus to the other ninnies (a.k.a. New Labour) and threw some dosh in the direction of the party fund.

New Labour come to power, and miraculously (and queitly) Anderson got 'let off' to the tune of £190 odd million. Oh, and they're now able to work for the Gov't again, and they all levind in each others pockets happily ever after.

Re John Humphreys -Today Programme

I listened to that too, I didn't think that he laid into the copper at all. John mentioned statistics that proved even with no speed limits, speed doesn't rise all that much, the copper immediately said that "all" the evidence pointed to a rise in accidents as speed rises and John didn't contradict him. This was irritating as the main thrust of the conversation was on _motorway_ speeding, even the policeman acknowledged are the safest roads around.

Wrong. Arthur Andersen is an accounting firm, which has now rebranded itself as 'Andersen'.
Accenture, was formerly known as 'Andersen Consulting', an IT Consulting firm (systems integration, outsourcing, technology, etc.. no accountants there !!). Between 1989 (Enron was a dwarf then) and 2000 Andersen Consulting and Arthur Andersen operated as independent companies. In july 2000, after 8 years of court battle and lobbying, Andersen Consulting managed to legally split from Arthur Andersen, but they had to give up their name in the process - hence the Accenture re-branding. Arthur Andersen then decided to drop the 'Arthur' and call themselves 'Andersen'.

In short, don't mix accountants and IT guys!

Just wanted to set the record straight !

Thanks

Must have missed that bit.. perhaps as well - it's not good for me to get wound up by the radio when I'm driving..

I was referring to the Accounting/Delorien thing as mentioned by Digga..

Yup. More lined pockets (courtesy of ENRON this time), a sizeable donation to tony and mates allowed a brief (long enough to build two plants) reversal of policy on the prohibited construction of a certain type of gas energy plant, didn't it?
