Hi Everyone,
My name is Steve, a fifty something year old from Merseyside. I am planning on getting a kit car next year and have started looking around. I will no doubt be asking many foolish questions and can only ask for your patience and forbearance. I am looking for something at the more practical end of the kit car market. At the moment my short list includes the following.

Shelsley T2,
Vindicator Vulcan/Shadow,
GKD Evolution,
Fisher Fury,
Sylva Stylus
GTM Libra.

The last three are probably the most favoured as it looks as if I may buy a pre owened car and these are the most readily available. I would be grateful for any advice, and help regarding possible pitfall for any of these.
Regards,
Steve.

Hi Steve,

Looking at the styling you've gone for, I'd add the Murtaya to your list of cars to consider. That probably doesn't help much in narrowing your choice though hehe

Thanks Davi, the Murtaya looks just the part, though unless I built it myself it would be out of my price range. From my list above I also neglected to add the sylva phoenix I am not sure what if any the differences are between the phoenix, fury and stylus? I thought it was just windscreens and doors but looking at pics that appears not to be the case Any ideas?

If I'm honest, I'm not sure either! I know that they all evolved from the same basic car, but couldn't tell you what the individual characteristics are of each.

Hi and Welcome.
The Fury etc. Its all a matter of preference, the handling of all of them is excellent. IMO it's down to what you want to use as a donor or which engine you want, or even which body shape you really like.

Welcome wavey

I would look into the GKD Evolution as they are doing some very interesting stuff with BMW parts (M3 engine anyone) and with the heritage of Ginetta behind it to back it up you cant go far wrong. I also like the Murtaya, very nice looking car and should be very quick. I would also take a look at MNR as a "7" type car.

Happy hunting

If you're interested in the Vindicator Shadow I think John Butler has a built one for sale although it may need a little work, but give him a ring and talk you'll find him very friendly.

I think you need to decide what you want from the car.
The top two are definately not as practical as the Libra. The Libra is definately not as high up the trackcar/performance scale as the others.....

I have had a Fury and a Libra, as Ferg said they are chalk and cheese! Toured Europe in both, one was slightly more practical than the other...

The Libra is a great all rounder and will do everything, a GOOD one is comparable to an Elise. Good meaning 1.8, ARB's and nicely finished. The Fury is incredible handling and fast, in a different league to regular road cars, sensory overload when on the limit. A proper sportscar no doubt, but limited luggage space (as in none really compared to the Libra) if you have a passenger.

The car I like the most is definately the fury, but being an older guy I can't get used to the idea of not even having a spare wheel. I have a Ford Cmax which didn't have a spare (just the repair kit) so I bought a space saver one for it. The thought of a puncture miles from anywhere, probably in the dark, and starting to rain, relying on a can of tyre weld fills me with depair. You may have noticed by now that I am a pessimist
Been trawling the net all day and I just can't get away from the furies.

I have done about 20,000 miles and about 30 trackdays in kitcars and have not had a single puncture yet. Not sure the lack of a spare wheel is a reason not to get one. A can of foam is the norm.
