As promised here starts the flood of questions I will no doubt have over the coming weeks,

Fuel level - how accurate is the guage supposed to be? I filled up the other week with 6 litres left on the read out, fully expecting to get 48-50 litres into my supposed 56l tank the pump cut off at 38 with the usual fountain of fuel (something I'm still trying to get the hang of).
If it's not too accurate what sort of mileage to most people get out of the car with say a qtr tank left? I always used to fill my Chim up based on miles done rather than what the guauge said.

Secondly my drivers side window - if I close it at speed there seems to be a pressure build up that pulls the glass out slightly so the it closes outside of the roof seal. Ben at Castle mentioned it's a case of TADTS but is it? If so is there anything that can be done to stop it?

Last question for now on oil temp - I'm struggling to get the read out to over 60deg at present though it does rise at standstill. Is this a similar issue to the Chims whereby the sensor is right at the front of the engine in the cold airflow? If so can I presume the oil is actually hot enough to put my foot down if need be (after sufficient warm up time) and it is only a display problem?

Tony

I think I had similar issues when I owned a T350..

The petrol guage amount and top up disagreed .. so you could safely top up when it was as low as 3 L and there was actually more than that left.. still made me a bit nervous though.

The windows at speed - not good eh.. I just made sure I did not do it above about 85 ..

The oil pressure / temp issues .. had it. Best get a new sensor - usually sorts out those issues of temp and non existant pressure. One garage I used even re routed the wiring and put gold terminals on to help combate these issues.

Yeah, I agree with previos comments - the sensors are prone to failer, I have had both my water temp ones replaced twice in less than a year. However, the oil pressure and temp readings are accurate (got them checked last time it was in Dreadnought TVR), should find oil temp settles above 70 but below 90.

Concerning fuel, I only fill it up once it starts to hit around 1 litre left and find it reads about 3 or 4 litres more after the fill-up on the display. I never fill it to the max as it spurts fuel out (as you know).

Thanks guys - so to confirm the window and fuel guauge is just a known pain in the bum?

Regarding the oil pressure - whilst cruising I show about 30psi, but at warm idle this drops to sround 6-8psi.
Does the same sensor also do the oil temp reading then? If so how easy is it to replace DIY if I get another from Castle? Reason I ask is that I can only take the car on a Saturday when their mechanics aren't in.

My driver window does that aswell, though normally i just put it down slightly, and try again.

The fuel - I normally top up when im under 10 litres and put about £40 in. I dont take the gauge reading too seriously!

They seem to be common issues.

I tend to assume a pessimistic 3 miles per litre, and start looking for a petrol station below 15L.

Window is much the same as yours, I just close it at low speed.

Oil pressure senders are (certainly were) prone to failure; replacements seem better. And, yes, temp sensor is affected by airflow.

All part of the fun.

Likewise, once it hits 16L I`m on the way to a garage - but I enjoy stopping before that just to stick 20L in and watched people's expressions biggrin

I dont seem to take my eyes of the oil temp, are you all saying that once the temp hits 70 or so, then if whilst driving down the road the temp drops to 60, thats just the sensor, I assume the oil itself has not dropped in temp and you can drive it hard??

Thats what I'm hoping and trying to clarify. Else in this weather I'm going to be constantly limited to 3500 rpm

Try some 15mm plumbing pipe foam insulation about 30mm long slide it over and push a bit in where the wire is and secure with tape on the sensor at the dry sump tank. Added about 8 deg c for me.

That's a great idea for the winter .. just be careful putting the power down..

Ice, salt, leaves .. all very slippery.

Don't want to be reading about peoples accidents again this winter.
