I know lots of folk are talking about those Tesco torches, but just go onto Ebay and do a search for "hid torch".

Now put two of those feckers on your handlebars! 3500 lumens, YEAH BABY!

"They" are mainly using the £10 3w (Cree) AA aluminium torch with lockblocks.

There's a thread somewhere on candlepower forums showing it against a cateye el510 (IIRC), and the tescos torch looked great, not very spotty. However, when I played with it in the shop, it looked really focussed.

That's what I've been reading; apparently it therefore works pretty well mounted to your helmet to supplement a "proper" bike light.

That's correct - my mate has two of them, and there isn't enough 'spill' to ride safely with only one. They are fantastic on the helmet though.

I used a Tesco 3w 2xAA torch for the first time last night cable tied to my helmet and it done the job. The beam is quite focused, but for £10 you can't go wrong (it even comes with 2 batteries)smile

Just picked up 2 of the AA Tesco torches whilst doing the weekly shop. Been outside with them and they are significantly brighter than my Cateye HL-EL320! Just ordered a couple of mounts from ebay, so providing they turn up soon, I'll get them fitted!

Then I can get back into my evening rides, as this clock change has really made the nights dark!

I made my own mounts out of the front and rear reflector brackets, just whip the reflectors of and bolt the two brackets together and hey presto yes

Pure luck that I came across them in my garage but it made an adjustable torch holder for no cost at all.

I think there isn't enough spread on those Tesco lights, but they use the Cree LED, and there is a range of lenses available for that. I may buy one and rip it to pieces, swapping the lens as I go. Jam a suitable sized lithium battery in there, and off I go smile
