can you bond a mirror directly to a plastered masonry wall?

its to go behind the bath and would prefer to bond it rather than use screws or fixings.

i know you can fit mirror tiles using standard tile cement but will this be enough to hold a piece about 2m x1.5m?

have googled but the most informative article was a tabloid piece about roger moore smile

Yes - we recently had our bathroom done with a decent sized mirror on the wall. The wall used to be tiled - these were removed and the mirror was bonded to the plaster wall using silicone. Tiles were placed round it as usual and it looks ace.

You can get a specific mirror adhesive for bonding to plastered walls. It would be hard to get the mirror off again though should you ever decide to.

As mentioned yes you can. However, make sure the mirror is made of toughened glass or put some safety backing on it to avoid it splintering in an accident.

You can't get toughened glass mirrors they do not exist.
Have it safety backed.
DO NOT USE SILICONE!
Use mirror mastic supplied by glass company.
Support mirror 24 hours for mastic to bond.

They do - the company I owned used to hand silver them on toughened clear glass, unfortunately the distortions caused by the toughening process made them very much like fairground mirrors !

(Also used to hand fabricate two-way mirrors for some "special" customers, used to give them a piece of masking tape for the red flashing light on the video cam with the receipt !)

As V8 Animal says - DO NOT USE SILICONE.
