I suspect the answer is to wait for the offer of points and accept them rather than challenge but here goes.

Scamera'ed on a dual carriageway 9am on Saturday morning at the bottom of a hill 46mph in a 40mph zone light traffic (all looked at same speed or above) no houses etc. Just after where the speed drops from national limit to 40 outskirts of a city. Saw the van and thought I was OK but hadn't considered the extra speed generated by the hill and my 17" alloys.

NIP within a week. I had to complete really as theres only me on insurance/in house etc.

What happens next.

I genuinely don't drive fast and was quite shocked to get this. Another 200 yards up the road and all would have been fine.

First issue in 15 years driving !!

Any advice.

Your wallet will be £60 lighter and your license 3 points heavier I'm afraid.

Kind of as suspected really although as a saving grace apparantly others in my area have been offered a "speeders course" for £50 and no points which I'm hoping for.

I'm not hugely fussed about the £60 (as although it was hardly a caught out fair and square I was over the limit and no doubts) but I don't want the endorsements for the next 4 years

This sort of thing can only be damaging the public's perception of the Police.

So far dealings with Bibs have been.

- Car was stolen they gave me a crime number and I never heard anything else.
- Girlfriends motorbike was set on fire (and we had a witness as it was broad daylight outside the supermarket she works at). 3 days to get around to coming for a statement. At the time of the statement the "officer" stated he'd pick the arsonist up in a week or so as the officer was going on his holidays! (Yeh never mind let him set fire to some more things for seven days!!) We never heard anything else from them but know the lad was charged and sentenced from other sources.
- I watched a youth throw a cigarette into a parked MGF and informed the police where the lad was sat (a bench no more than 1 minutes walk from the Police station) and then watched the lad for 20 minutes before getting bored. They did nothing.
- Finally this.

To say I'm disillusioned is something of an understatement.

Best of all I pay for this fine service too

Doubt it would cut any ice with the magistrate, but it's worth a try mentioning/looking into the figures, the fact that you have after-market 17" wheels on your car which would cause the speedo to under-read? It's not like you were doing 25%+ over the limit after all is it?!

Problem is that speeding is an absolute offence and as such 1mph or 6 mph over the speed limit I was still speeding (although given the camera position it would have been difficult to have not been).

End of the day I'll accept points and fine.

Ask why they are not following the ACPO guidelines. This allows an overspeed of 10% of the limit plus 2 mph so at 46 in 40 , you were at the ACPO limit but not over it.

Yes, I know they are only guidelines but why did ACPO go to the trouble of writing them if they are to be ignored. I have even seen Brunstrom quote them on TV and our local Arrive-Alive-minus-your-licence team say they also use the guidelines and don't prosecute until a driver exceeds the above figures.

The system relies on the registered keeper naming a holder of a UK licence who is willing to accept repsonsibility.

You DID provide the system with food, so it will now sit back and chew happily.

Be more careful next time

I take it you will be more than happy to pay your council tax next time it goes up by 24%, like mine has?
