Does anyone rate the sky packages anymore?

I had Telewest broadband and Cable TV in the last place and it was a big pile of steaming poo.

Mum and Dad have sky but they seem to chop and change the channels available. I have little interest in sport, aside from UFC, Boxing Matches and the odd game of Rugby (which I go to the battle cruiser for anyway). I like documentaries and films.

I need some high speed internet action, ideally with wireless capability. I've googled and got a few names, but are any recommended by you fine folk?

Highly recommend sky at the moment
the 17 pound deal for phone, net,tv
plus you can get your line rental via them and they refund the cost of connection of BT line.

If you get sports for 3 months you get a free sky + box aswell

There must be some kind of trap, it's so cheap!

It's the same as people (or myself) pay for decent internet + BT line rental alone..

Another one here in the Sky camp, although I've not bothered with the phone service. I never use my landline and only ever get junk calls on it so there's no phone connected.

The broadband's faster than BT's (it's ADSL2, whereas BT can only supply standard stuff - 6Mb on Sky, 3.5Mb on BT - and the Sky connection's half the price of BT...go figure!) and of course you have Sky TV in there as well.

Good value for money.

Sky do not cover all phone exchanges, plus I have never heard of them refunding BT line rental.

If you want cheap - get virgin XL and Phone (£22) then buy a Eurovox smile

just switched to sky plus. It cost me £30 to install (dish and wires)
£22 per month. Got two options with it, sky1 and sports channels 8mb constant broadband. Free evening and weekend calls. All other calls 5% cheaper then BT. I still have to pay £10.50P for line rental from BT for the phone line. So £32.50 a month. I was paying BT £14.50 per month + 14.99 for tiscalli broadband at 2mb. Sky plus is the nuts fella, really good. Never knew life would be so much better, i record Havoc, American chopper, Topgear, 5th Gear, Merlin etc etc so so good. You know when you manage to get a spare half hour and fancy a beer and TV. Favorite programs ready and waiting..... its brilliant! And it costs me £3 a month more then before. Oh i have sky in my bedroom too. Me and the missis love the smutty channels! yeeeehaaaaaaa!

Oh i live in a 2nd floor flat, sky dish? No worries! they have long long ladders.......

There is an ariel socket that says 'Sky' (I think, don't quote me) or maybe satellite scratchchin

I must have to subscribe to a service as an individual though??!

In that case there is a shared dish/IRS in the building.

So its Sky or Freesat and thats your lot.

You'll need your own box/subscription but cable isnt available to you I wouldnt have though

Spot on, and he'll have the same issues as me if he wants Sky+ (in that he can't).

Was nice to find out I should be able to have HD though, even if I can't record another channel whilst watching something else or forgetting to put it on the right channel before I go out..

Better off with Virgin for your broadband, get yourself an ITGate box for your TV, and forget the landline.

All good, and cost you peanuts.

And then post on speed, plod and the law when you get fined or even put away (like one recent "cheeky chappy" in Wigan).

I thought there were some t's and c's on this forum about promoting illegal activity on this forum?

Anyway, if that's your view on morality, let me know where you park your car - I may need to borrow it. If it's ok for you to use cable illegally, then by your rules it's Ok for me to use your car illegally. Right?

Folks,

Just a polite reminder that PH does not support promoting any illegal activity - as possibly suggested on some of the posts above.

Whilst it's wholely legal to own and use these boxes for freeview purposes only; it becomes illegal when used to access copyrighted/paid for content - ie channels to which you are not paid up to access.

I'm 99% sure those are the rules.

For both the above posters...

I'm sure you'll be equally fervent the next time someone posts here about speeding, wont you. Hmm, that would wipe out a faily good proportion of ALL the posts on this site. Or are you just turning a blind eye to things because they're convenient to you...

Some consistency on YOUR behalves would be a nice thing to see for a start.

Actually - minor point of correction here. Whilst it is legal to OWN these boxes, it is not legal, however, to connect them to the privately owned cable network in the UK - EVEN if you have a legal subscription to the channels you attempt to view. You are only allowed to connect equipment provided by the cable company to the network. Anything else, as well as running the risk of legal action, can also cause interference on the network and thus affect other people's service locally.

As for the "speeding" question, Big Rob, no I don't intentionally speed, nor do I condone or encourage intentionally speeding. I don't "turn a blind eye" - I ignore the posts. However, someone posting about speeding does not materially affect me, whereas stealing cable TV service does.
