fake watches on here
Discussion
i agree (even though i reported the seadweller - before i read that he'd described it as a replica with an ETA movement
)
i think as long as they're described as replicas etc then ok.
i just had a look at the seadweller and, if those pictures are of the watch for sale, then it seems a *very* good replica. then i read the writeup and it's got a sweeping movement too.
very impressive
and i'm not getting into the whole debate about fake watches. i just think that's a lot of watch for £99
and no, i'm not the seller and i wouldn't buy it as a)i'm fortunate enough to have a real one and b)i don't like the idea of wearing something that proports to be something it's not
but - i can see how someone would be tempted for £99 when the real ones are £3000.

To those who object to the ownership of fakes, a question.
Are ALL of the pictures on the walls of your homes original works of art ? No prints ?
Just a quick Q to widen the debate ........
A print allows up-close, everyday enjoyment of an image which one would otherwise only be able to observe in a gallery or a book.....and the replica watch gives pleasure in a similar tangible way, though only a fool would try to pass it off as the real deal as to be caught out by ones peers would equal serious social suicide.....
Costume jewelry for the boys...?

The bottom line is that they are theft and breach of copyright and intellectual property rights.
Recent cases of this same thing included eBay in france and Germany, whereby I think it was Omega and Rolex successfully sued eBay for $60m, and eBay were told to proactively stop this practice moving forward.

Bingo! I think that you will find that counterfeit items are generally illegal to sell or purchase, or often possess. If PH willingly permits the sale of such items they could be a target for at least civil, if not criminal action.Recent cases of this same thing included eBay in france and Germany, whereby I think it was Omega and Rolex successfully sued eBay for $60m, and eBay were told to proactively stop this practice moving forward.

reality: The BiB won't come after you if you let people sell the odd fake on here, but Rolex would gladly haul Haymarket's ass right into court.
I don't think you have to mark them as replica! Even if you owned the original one and fell on hard times, you would be able to get more than that selling them to the likes of www.watches.co.uk

As long as the advert is honest, I don't see a problem.
Personally, I'd rather buy a £50 quid "real" watch than a £50 quid fake. But thats just me
They are still a £50 watch...... either way... if it looks good, tells the time and is reliable does it matter?Personally, I'd rather buy a £50 quid "real" watch than a £50 quid fake. But thats just me

People buy prints for their homes because they like the original, if asked nobody would say "Yeah mate it's a Monet".Are ALL of the pictures on the walls of your homes original works of art ? No prints ?

People buy fake watches because they want people to think they have the real thing.
If they didn't and it's simply for the look then why buy a fake Rolex Sub for £50 when you can buy a real Avia Sub for £30 at Elizabeth Duke?

Good to know that PayPal UK close accounts where it has been used to accept payment on fake/replica watches.
