ok, so mainly im talking about 15 year ols supension components

you know, the lower wishbones, arbs, steering knuckles, springs etc... all of that 'stuff' that you see when you take teh wheels off

its all very grey/brown and dirty and has hard powdered rust layers over it as well in some place

what can I do about it short of taking it all apart and powder coating it ? Can i wire brush it all off somehow or make it more presentable ?

would really appreciate some pointers

cheers

I would buy some Bilt Hamber Surfex HD and give that a go. It should remove most of your grime and then dress.

To clean plastic arches I use any good APC ( All purpose cleaner). Once you have cleaned the arches, if lined with plastic I would use something like Meguiars Silicon free dressing (available on their website under the valeting section of the shop). This will also dress plastic, and leave a lovely shine for weeks.

My other favourite is Einszett Rubber / Vinyl protectant, which dresses pretty well anything in an original matt.

If metal I would go for a decent polish ( Autoglym SRP) followed by couple of coats of Collinite 416 or any decent wax, once the area is dry and clean. Apply with an old cloth or applicator pad.

this metal is completely **cked though
i would have thought it needs all sorts fo work done to it before it can be polished or waxed !

OK for parts that corroded you are looking to use something like Bilt Hamber Detox Gel. With a paintbrush coat the parts with gel, leave for 24 or so hours and then wash away using a stiff brush. Once rinsed away you will get a better idea of the condition of surface underneath.

Just strip it all down, give it a wire brush and then get it powder coated. No product will remove scabby rust and crud. Take the wire wheel to it and save yourself a load of time and cash rather than faffing about rubbing stuff onto it.
