Ok wondering what type of place I go to for a quote on something? what sort of builder, or landscaper or what? it's quite an unusual project.

Got a really steep bank that falls away from the driveway. Huge amount of wasted space so thinking about building a sort of jetty like driveway extension.... maybe like a really big balcony, steel construction but want to keep the appearance of depth and space probably get some really big rocks in the bank underneath it and some lighting - want the deck/jetty to be either steel or steel and wood design mixed together, not solid though, beams and posts so it's still looks spacious. The house is quite modern architecturally and quite designery so it would need to be fitting in with the place and not too rustic. There is enough space to park a car or two on it if it could be utilised.

It's quite hard to describe but any ideas where to start?

Yeah I thought that, then I thought they might not do it because it's got to take the weight of a car - the bank drops away about 2m too so it's going to need quite a stable structure underneath it.

They make entire houses out of wood in most places! a wood structure is easily strong enough for cars if designed for purpose.

Obviously there will be some concrete footings too.

Yes I had assumed that footings would be required... lol!

But it was just more who do I start with for a quote/design.... like you say I thought a decking company but then thought it might be too involved.

Do you think I need to get an architect to design and plan it?

It would be alot easier to give the contracter a drawing to work a price from.

It'll probably be expensive for an architect, but if you want something thats going to compliment the house, it could be worth it.

The architect will probably point you in the right direction, in terms of finding someone to carry out the work.

Go to a Landscape Architect or a reputable Landscape Contractor should be more than capable of designing and building your project.

Cheers, found a couple of places who seem capaple of doing the work and quoting... the hardest bit is getting our ideas into a design and into a plan...

Thanks for suggestions - it helped with getting started.

If you could post a pic on here of the area you are describing, I'm sure someone will print it out and draw a decent back of a fag packet sketch to show someone to get a rough price ... I'll have a go if I've got the time - but let's see the area you're talking about (from a couple of angles ideally)

Cheers Mikey, looking for inspiration as much as anything. Will insert one into my original post later when I get home.

You want a design and build firm.

Where are you?

Shooting distance of West London?

I have the patience of an ant. My OH has less.

Yesterday please. With mature garden foliage intertwined around it.

Seriously though, finding the right people who can interpret ideas and add to them - draw up plans and/or build is the most important bit...(can source good builders but they tend to work on an instructional not creative basis).
