This car is seriously getting to me. Now I find that a head gasket has blown even though the engine is running better than ever. Damn, damn, damn. Got a quote today of £750 all in to include welding up the blowing manifold. Is it worth it I ask myself. Anybody interested in buying the duffer? It looks great, sounds great, goes great, but needs a beer every 50 miles, hard liquor every 300 miles. Best bid over £2,500 and it's yours.

Have a go yourself. Won't cost you more than £100 in bits.

I managed to buy some new head-gaskets on e-bay for 99p!

Changing them is easy, it is just getting at them bd exhaust manifold bolts! banghead

It has to stop letting you down in the end - once you've done everything that needs doing, its start behaving!

Wedge manifold bolts aren't too bad, you just lean over from the other side or get em from underneath. I still don't know how I'm ever going to get at the Griff ones confused...smash

They are not "cheap" gaskets, they are genuine Rover items that I bought cheaply wink

Second hand but unused, if you know what I mean.

Before I started I thought I'd check the compressions cold. They range from 152 to 172. When I fired it up, steam was coming out the exhaust and it was chugging slightly. The heads come off tomorrow. Gulp.....
