My wife flies to the US tomorrow for a fortnight on business. Not a problem in itself, but it she has been in the US for a fortnight every month for the past 8 months. Unfortunately, it means I have to cheer my 5 year old up, who misses his mummy too much frown

But you'll get to having proper daddy/son time - go and do cool things and keep him so busy he has no time to miss mummy.

Just imagine if you worked on a rig. It must be so hard not seeing your kids for that length of time. I was cracking up not seeing my wee lad for just 10 days, but half a year eek

Which is great. However, she only got back from her last 2 week trip on Monday evening!!!

I wish I had the time the OP has with his son. Saw my little chief today for the first time in 2 weeks. He lives with his Mummy and has been on holiday - seeing him once or twice a week for a few hours is regular for me.

Ouch. I couldn't do that.

How does she feel about it>

Is there some chance she's enjoying being a woman again, and not just a mum?

Don't get me wrong, I love spending the time with the little guy & am very lucky that I get to have so much time with him. I just feel very sorry for him, as he has hardly seen his mum this year due to work & he misses her terribly.

She enjoys it, but does get a little pissed off with the frequency. However, she is extremely career-mided & has a great job with excellent prospects. And, yes, I guess she is enjoying being a woman again.

I have a feeling that we will be taking her boss out to dinner when she gets back to talk about a relocation package for us to move out there, as I have to put a lot of my work activities ( I travel maybe once or twice a fortnight) on hold when she goes away for obvious reasons!

Phone calls? pictures of mummy? I get the feeling BOTH of you will miss her.

Business acquaintance of mine has struggled with this for a couple of years and, after his wife's latest promotion, has just given up work to become a house-husband.

Both their jobs involve quite a lot of travel and it was becoming difficult to sort out care arrangements for their 2 young kids.

I know he was on a package that would have been ball-park £100K/yr so God knows what his wife is earning for him to be able to walk away from that kind of money.

having a job which requires you to spend half a year abroad, when you have a young child and husband? fk that, think she needs to sort her priorities out mate, some things in life are far more important than money and a career, fair enough if it were just you she was leaving, and you were fine with it for some reason, but i'd say with a young child, she needs a new job

Good grief woman, I spend 5 out of every ten weeks away from my little girl. I cope, she copes, we all cope, AND I get paid for it. What's not to like? biggrin

I must admit, the hardest part of the job is leaving the little monkey behind, after a sleepy little goodbye at 5am. frown

Not judging your OH here seriously but i cant understand how she could cope. I could'nt leave my two boys for any job. It would break my heart. I feel bad enough when i'm on a split shift and i only see them for about half an hour in that day. I feel for you hon
