I’d been having some troubles with my wipers not parking in the correct place. They park about 30 deg from the normal stop position. I’m pretty sure it’s not the connectors, park switch or the large relay in the fuse box.

I noticed when they wipe, the tube which houses the screw thread rod pushes the motor about in its mount. If I push the motor back against the tube the wipers will be forced to park in the correct position.
I undid the bolt on the end of the motor which connects it to the tube to see if I could find out what is wrong. Upon re assembly I am now unable to push the tube back into place, the furthest I can push it is pictured below. In the photo it needs to slide about 1" to the left.

Has this happened to anyone else?
Does anyone have any pictures of the wheel box or know how the tube is attached?
Please don’t tell me I need to remove the dash and cut inspection holes to access the wheel boxes...

Anthony is that because the internal drive has moved and therefore will not allow the outer cover to mate up?

Thanks Ian,
I can still move the internal drive rod in and out and it moves the wipers and I am still able to reconnect the motor to the tube. I just can’t get the tube to move back (left) to its correct position.

Any ideas?

Aaah yes, same thing other end of tube as per Adrian. As Adrian says you may get a temp fix by persevering and it may slide back, if not its an access hole I'm afraid.

Thanks Adrian - Your were spot on!!

I was able to pull the motor back a bit and slide the entire tube out. The flare had broken off leaving a jagged end. I covered the rod with some cling wrap to protect it from the filings and gently filed any remains of the flare away. After this it happily slid back into place and my wipers are now working (and parking) fine.

I’ll try fix it properly next year when I pull everything apart and attempt to retro fir air conditioning.

BTW – when you suggested drilling a slot, were you suggesting going in via the engine bay or from behind the dash as the bible suggests?
