Sorry if this is a repost, but with no search facility I only went back a day or so.

Took 'The Mist' out on dvd last night having heard some decent reviews. Started off ok, not particularly scary shocks although there were some brilliant takes on the standard horror film i.e. the morality aspects viz religion and religious intolerancy. Bit humdrum after that, then st! What an ending! Absolutely out of the blue and another fantastic 'what would you have done?' moment.

Anyone else seen it and care to disagree? argue

Yep. It started off great then got a little dodgy, turned into a typical King TV movie, for a bit, then saved itself with a really unconventional ending. For that it deserves a thumbs up thumbup

The geaphics were a bit crap though smile

While were on about films anyone see Felon? That is the first film I've watched in a long time that I thought was fecking brilliant.

The mist? is that the one where loads of people are holed up in a supermarket? If it is, i read the story and dont want to spoil my memory of it(see the da vinci code)

Seriously, it's not like the book apart from the basic premise and some of the character development..... the ending of the book is conventional; the ending of this film is astounding.

And yes, agree the cgi wasn't exactly convincing, which was half the problem

The end of the 'book' (was more of a short story really) wasn't that conventional for an American release at least, so I can't imagine what the fiolm ending is like!

ETA: yikes Just read up on the ending, and whoa, thats not something you;d expect!

Is it as bad as the relationship between the story The Lawnmowerman and the film *ahem* version?

According to Kermode, the film company offered the director a shed load of cash to change the ending to a more Hollywood friendly ending.

Glad he didn't thumbup astonishing ending!

I wouldn't say 'bad' in this case! Lawnmower Man, Children of the Corn etc were definitely short stories and ruined by making them into films. More 'good' in the way that the Rita Hayworth one became the Shawshank Redemption.

Honestly - take it out on dvd; it'll only cost you a couple of quid and don't pass judgement until the end......

Yes, I saw it at the cinema, and the ending was shocking to say the least.

Personally I didn't like it, I just didn't find it convincing enough. It just felt like it had been added on for shock rather than for the story.

Good film though!

I enjoyed it. Thought the short story was good and I thought the film captured the essence of that quite well. I thought the disintegration of the group was quite well portrayed.

It was also nice to see an ending that wasn't "Hollywoodised"

Worth a watch if you like sci-fi horror.

The ending was shocking? Really?

I saw this last night, and the GF and I had worked out the ending well before it happened.

  • Yawn**
Least it was better than the other two DVDs we got. Eden Log and Catacombs.

But that's not saying much as the other two were VERY ste.
