After removing the exhaust manifold on my car for the second time in as many months I managed to break a stud off on the turbo so I'm not best pleased. Being no mechanic could anyone tell me what this stud size is so I can go and pick one up. Luckily the one that broke off is still showing so it shouldn't be to difficult to get out.
Be grateful when Mole Valley eventually manage to get hold of the 400 replacements.

Cheers

Steve

If you've broken the stud because it was corroded in then you will need an experienced mechanic to drill and tap it out. If the remaining portion is not too tight then you may be successful with a pair of mole grips.

You might be able to put two nuts on it if you have enough showing so they lock together. If it's corroded then you might need to use penetrating oil. Might then be able to just spanner it out.

I've just put my turbo on and found a leak on the manifold while I was cheking the turbo air seal so I feel your pain smile.

Can I ask if the studs on the manifold->engine were easy to get at/get off? Not sure I fancy breaking one of those....

Bolts came out quite easy, I havent tried to get the stud out yet thats my next battle. The bolts around the turbo seem to be more of a battle.

Presumably like me you've found that one bolt on the manifold to turbo on the bottom that appears to have no clearance? When I got it off I found someone had cut half the head off to fit it in. No wonder it took me ages to get a grip on it. Crazy....

I ground down a spanner to do that job, otherwise you can't really do them back up very tight.

Must admit I was a little worried about that one as I was doing it. Probably end up being the source of my air leak :sarcastic:. It's all good fun hehe
