Paying for a Wedding
Discussion
Evening,
Just wanted the general PH thoughts on the above topic and the situation that our family is in.
Right, Sister (29, working mum) is getting married next year to her boyfriend (41, own business, plenty of money, own place 2 x cars etc). She has asked our Father to "finance" this doo (lavish party/dresses/the full works etc). My dad has had a meeting today with them and has agreed to give £5,000 towards any aspect of the wedding, such as the party and such like.
Sister has turned her nose up at this in a nasty way. I am personally upset at her behaviour as my Dad has been running his own business for the past 10 years (Automotive Insurance) and has done well out of it. Why should he plough his hard earned into a wedding that the couple could afford to pay for 20 times over? I appreciate that it is his daughter etc, but jeez, come on.
This has nothing to do with the plan that we had to buy a mk2 Escort and restore it (is an ex Ford tech)..........Honest 'guv
Its gonna get political soon.
Whats the thoughts?

Yet again yes but same rules apply now it merely depends on family view really. If the bride and groom feel they can afford to pay for the wedding themselves and wish to do so obviously they can but it's down to personal choice and in fairness the parents of the bride can in these circumstances tell the bride and groom to pay for the wedding themselves.

How much does a wedding cost these days?
Surely £5,000 would help towards the cost and they've turned it down
You must be kidding??Surely £5,000 would help towards the cost and they've turned it down

Dress 1000 pounds upwards very easily. Reception 1-2k dep on location amount of guests, invites, honeymoon church fees the list goes on.
A decent wedding is probably upwards of 10k.
The problem with weddings is the women.
If you could keep the bride out of it and her mother and sisters and mates and groom's female relatives and any mates etc. etc. it would be fine. They all go into Princess-Mode.
Suggest the blokes arrange it, sort out a track day followed by a BBQ with lashings of beer and you'll be sorted - a couple of bottles of wine for the ladies I suppose.
I suspect this will not happen however - it will be a world of s
t from now to the wedding therefore with recriminations that will last for years afterwards (albeit from people you don't ever see for years on end anyway).

its a day and its to spend with those you love, doesnt mean it has to be the dogs bolloks
some ppl have thier heads in the clouds
tbh if your father has offered an amount after feeling pushed into talking finances then id say he is a better person than your sister who to me is being greedy
