Are they difficult to change and did the new ones make a difference?

I had new ones fitted a couple of months back, but can't say I've noticed a lot of difference in vibration, etc.
This particular engine has always purred though.

As Graham prophesised, I am now a Grand Master of TVR repairs. Today I removed my engine mountings to get the RH exhaust manifold out of the way. It wasn't easy, don't let anyone kid you it is. Only do it if you have to. My back hurts, my hands are knackered, and I am still trying to get warm. Oh, and my wife is fed up with me spending the day under a pile of scrap.

I raised the front end on ramps using planks as a run up to avoid smashing the spoiler to pieces. Chocked the wheels, left in gear, handbrake on and spare car parked up chuff. I put on my safety glasses to avoid all the crap that gets in your face when you crawl about under a tasminger. I supported the engine with a jack and block of wood under the sump. I then undid the 2 small lower bolts (mine had been replaced with excessively long 1/2 inch bolts) and really struggled with the 2 bolts on top of the mounting (16mm nylock nuts) because the back one is hard to get at and I didn't have any penetrating oil which would have helped as the ends of the threads were rusty. I couldn't get the mounts to separate by jacking the engine, it just took the car up as well, so I undid the mounting brackets from the block, 2 9/16 bolts from underneath and a 1/2 from above. I had to do this to get the RH manifold out but I wouldn't recommend it unless you have to as the bolts feel like they are welded in and it doesn't do the block threads any good screwing them in and out. I replaced all the bolts with SS from All Threads. Lining the new ones back up isn't easy, I found it easier to loosely locate the bottom 2 bolts first thus allowing a bit of movement to assist getting the top mounting bolts into the mounting brackets attached to the block. If I was daft enough to try again I would spend more time trying to prise apart the mounting and not remove the block brackets. Either that or buy a garage. Oh, and I had already disconnected the manifolds which probably makes it easier to lift the engine. Now my neck hurts.

Well done clap...just to counteract the ear-bashing from the Mrs. hehe

I remember starting a full resto and transplant job on a car many moons ago .... fortunately only had a very helpful girlfiend then (don't they change after the ring goes on eek).

Anyway, fed up of being cold on a particularly frosty night, I just towed the complete front suspension crossmember... brakes and the lot level with the kitchen door, heaved it inside my brand new house, and rebuilt it all in that comfy warm kitchen. smile

Well, that's what a BLOKE's place is for, innit ? hehe

You're right there.biggrin

My ex had my best years, sucked me dry and spat me out...usual story of poor helpless male being shafted...do I sound cynical ? hehe

The lovely girlfriend (later fiancee) referred to, tragically lost her life in an accident when still in her twenties.

What's this, "Ask Auntie Alan"? ;^)

Getting back to engine mounts, there's a good reason for having excessively long bolts, it's so you can move the engine forward a few inches without taking it off the mounts completely. This is useful to enable a couple of jobs such as clutch replacement.
