I am booked to test drive two E320 CDi Avantgardes at the MB dealer. Both on 05/55 plates, both just under £16k ('reduced by 1k' this week) with about 38,000 miles on, both full leather, no Sat Nav, panoramic roof or prewire on either.

I had popped in late this afternoon to casually talk about one of them I had noticed had had The £1k knocked off since I was last in about 2 weeks ago but it had sold, and they didn't seem too interested in trying to sell me the other, possibly because I had previously suggested I wanted Comand. I didn't want to seem too keen as I am in no rush to buy so left intending to go back later in the week and make a cheeky offer on the remaining car. I had another option anyway which I have now decided against ( 06 BMW 525D SE auto with 56K miles).

Anyway, I was called about an hour ago by the salesman to say the finance deal had fallen through on the sold car and was I interested?

So, what is the right price in the current market and circumstance with the previous deal falling through so late in the month? I am a cash buyer and I think about £15K with an intial offer at £14,500???

Do I feign disinterest, and mention the BMW is on the table at a similar price to their Merc? Or do I simply offer them the £14.5k and walk away?

www.cargiant.co.uk/Mercedes/E320/details-397233-Me... 14.5k for this one , why would anybody pay more ? Print it off and take it in to them and tell them you plan to pay cash for either theirs or this one , their choice . In a polite manner naturally.
Think i would have this one for 12k though

Hi B&B 1st make sure which ever car you buy, has the 3.0 V6 CDI engine with the 7 speed auto box. The change over was in early 05.
Price wise values are falling at about £900 per month. Few dealers are buying
stock at present so you may well find a car at 15k with sat nav in December.

Mark.

Had to walk away.

The screen price was £16,990 (silver) and £16940 (black) but Autotrader had them both at £15990.

I offered them £15K which they were prepared to accept on the Black one but not on the Silver one. I went to £15,500 on the silver one if they included the protection pack. Lots of to-ing-and fro-ing with the sales manager who was adament the car owed them £18K (they should sack their buyer). They also reduced the offer on my B Class from £12,500 to £12,000 citing the reduced screen price since it was valued 3 weeks ago.

Basically they asked for £15990, I offered £15,500 with the protection pack (mats, boot protector, paint and leather guard listed at £399). They declined.

I had gone in for the Black one but they noted that my silver B class had crap from my neighbours trees in the door seals which put me off the black one as it is parked on the drive near the trees and I would be constantly washing it!

I'm not sure I would pay anything let along 399 for the paint and leather guard. Firstley, nom of these products are very good and the dealer pays abot 50 quid for the whole kit.

That was my point. I knew there was good margin it it for him even at £250, although I had it on an Audi with pale blue and black seats and although I can't say it was the stainguard, it did stay clean despite my best efforts.
