What I don't understand is why people who're moaning about this telephone call thing don't just stop paying their licence fee for a couple of months.

Nothing will come of it and it'll hurt the BBC. But instead you get a load of letter writers, and sternograms sent here and there to be batted aside by patronising spokesman.

I couldn't really care much about it myself, but I can't see why people don't see the obvious.

Seems to be that if you don't like what they're doing with your cash, you stop sending it, lol.

There's no law making you watch TV and even if you stopped paying but kept watching for a month you get a 1/12th reduction in your annual fee and nobody will ever find out that you were watching TV during the period.

ps please I don't want to hear the law on TV licencing with the "if you own a TV you have to pay" BS because you only have to pay IF you watch broadcast TV. Owning a set doesn't come into it even if it's capable of receiving -- this is a lie spun by TVLA.

I was thinking this yesterday. Stupid really, because Brand is actually quite a funny bloke. Though I found watching him making the call funny, I didn't find the content funny. Ponderland's on this week though scratchchin

They'll be making us declare something similar to SORN, should we have a TV and not a license.

I read about Brand/Ross and can't believe Ross stooped so low.

I think Ross is funny but Brand is as funny as a dose of the clap and is also an immensely dislikeable self-serving attention-seeker. I think both overstepped the mark radically and both are old enough to know it's not funny. They should introduce a system where they can be fined substantial sums. The licence fee is totally irrelevant because you could be not paying because you think all soap operas and reality shows are total sh*** watched by brain-dead muppets claiming benefits. It's not like I watch either anyway, I just make charitable donations to the BBc for the once a month they field a decent programme.

You've seen the "Jonathan Ross" show I presume though? If ever there was a vechicle to pander to one man's ego, that has to be it.

I share your sentiments on Brand...I was watching a trailer for one of his shows with a live audience...he was spouting out some obvious ste...and the audience were laughing...but i couldn't see why as nothing he was saying or doing was in the least bit funny. Perhaps there was an episode of Blackadder being shown to the left of the stage and that was what they were laughing about??

Different jokes for different folks. I've never found Blackadder particularly amusing.

No that's a thread running about whether brand/ross are funny. This is a thread wondering why people who want to protest about something the TV company they pay for personally don't withold one or two months' subscription.

It's a no risk strategy that'll make them listen.

I listen to feedback most Friday lunchtimes and it's ludicrous how they wheel out a supercillious gimp every week to patronise correspondents about how "most people" find it ok.

Write in to say you're fining them a month's subs. Simple. Get a curry with the money, feel pleased that you've done something.
