Running small events & selling tickets

I am relatively new to running my own business and as part of raising my profile in the local area I want to run some small events.

I have found a suitable venue (capacity 50 people) but in order to guarantee at least some people turn up and to give it some inherrent value I want to sell tickets at about £10 each and offer some giveaways to add value.

My problem is a vehicle to sell tickets. My business is too small at the moment to need to take credit & debit cards so other than hawking the tickets around personally (some of which I will do), does anyone know of a simple way of offering tickets by phone/internet.

Why don't you consider partnering with your local chamber/business association/breakfast club? They're likely to have a ready audience for you and are often on the look out for sponsorship for events. These are often at very modest cost.

For example, in our area, we could offer to sponsor of a breakfast, plus 10 mins to talk about the product offering for 50 or so people for less than £100.
