I've bought a 1999 528 with a reconditioned gearbox (all recites and paper work are present) It had the work done at 100,000 miles and is currently at 110,000 miles with full BMW Service History. I know that the E39 gearbox should last the life of the car but this one developed a fault and had to be replaced (cost nearly 2k) It drives beautifully, shifts no problem I just wondered what peoples view is on this? It does in a way mean I don't have to worry about the original gearbox giving out, and seeing that I only do 6000 miles per year it won't get used much. Am I just being paranoid? biggrin

Manual boxes for old beemers are cheap enough to pick up second hand on Ebay or from breakers. I wouldn't worry about it, the recon box is going to be in better nick than a 110k one anyway.

I've moved it to the BMW forum, as it makes more sense.
