They're actually following through with it smile The album's due to be released on 23rd November (this year!). What's likely to be the first single (also called Chinese Democracy) is going round radio stations.
I linked to a youtube version of it in the music thread:

Or you can hear it on the official Guns n Roses website.

I'm getting quite excited!

Excellent. I've heard a couple of the tracks and they sounded good. To be honest, until I read that, I had given up hope and then forgotten about it.

Love the tale that everyone gets a drink, oh, except you two.

I only hope that it will live up to the 'old memories'.

I fear it just won't be the same without Slash.

Just reading Slash's autobiography, quite an eye opener tbh.

If you mean "Will it be like Appetite for Destruction?" It won't. Think of UYI being one evolution form the Appetite days, and this is another on top of that.
From what I've heard, if someone gave you this album and told you it was by a band called The Frogs, you'd be amazed. The songs are really good, and played well. But it's not AFD, and it's not trying to be. That doesn't make it bad though.
Have a listen on that link. I'd say that's not the best new song they've done (I prefer Better, Catcher in the rye, The blues) but it's representative of the style I think.

Bring back the old GNR I say. Slash is just amazing... I would love to see him live.

Yep it's a cracking read, just have the last few pages to read tonight on the way home. Those guys crammed a hell of a lot of life/debauchery into just a few years as a band.

Saw Velvet Revolver at Live8, and for me they were by far the best bit of the day.
