All the best to those involved, but you are mistaken in your view that modern TVR's do not stand up to impact. No criticism of the Ferrari, but I doubt there is a great deal of difference between a TVR and a modern Ferrari.

Fibreglass will seemingly disintegrate upon impact, however this absorbs a lot of energy - so things will often appear a lot worse than they really are, and the shock absorption is actually a benefit. That said, IMHO it is fair to say that most TVR's do not offer as good side impact protection.

the nature of the chassis is such that, with a very stiff centre tunnel and limited side protection, it's not a great design for passenger saftey in a side impact.

There is minimal structure in the side of these cars and whilst the deformation of the body makes an impact look worse than it is, there isn't much to protect from side impacts.

Head-on's are another story, the very stiff chassis and energy absorbing body seem to work quite well, smiular principle to an F1 car.

As for the comparison with ferrari's, the modern post 200o cars are compranised in design to achieve saftey standards which TVR never had to work to. They weigh a lot more so one can only imagine that in a crash will fair some what better.

Cheers, Richard.

Thought TVRs from the cerbera onwards had an integral roll-bar (exc Tamora) So if you got hit at the rear of the car you wouldnt do too badly? Wouldnt fancy a 45 degree impact right into the door though.

Sorry guys, I started that thread on Clubscuderia. No offence intended, I really like TVRs, was just shocked to see such an accident. Out of respect for the guy involved he asked for the thread to be closed on CS, so can it also be closed here also?

Lets hope he makes a full recovery. A truely horrible event for anybody.

You have obviously considered your reasons for the deletion, your post your choice.

So on that note, lets bring the thread to a close.
