It's truly incredible. These fluctuations are the sort of numbers you might see once every 20/30 years. We're seeing them one a week at the moment.

Volatility is unreal. I've has spread bets with automatic stops, hit the stops before I've had the email confirmation that the trade is active!
What was it...890 points? crazy. Still, I'm about to short it.....!!

As long as the exchange rate doesn't go back to $2:£1 before pay day I don't really care. hehe

Interesting how the BBC has stopped giving the actual figures (ie '3923') and just says 'up/down 5%'

I expect some clever people are making millions every time it swings.

Shadytree, has noted VW back last month

And been raised on one of the other finance related threads - Porsche buyout is the quick answer for the stock price movements, though it isn't that simple.

It's just got to be people gambling on fed decision on thursday. Either way as soon as the decision is made go short. If it's a hold it'll give it all back very quickly, and if they cut 25bps it'll rally a little but then fall as a cut will be priced in already. 50bps will be interesting - but highly unlikely as I think a hold is highly probable and these traders gambling on cuts are a bit idiotic and just finding something to move the markets.

yes Common shares are listed on the Dax and through depositary receipts elsewhere.

yes I can't see the logic for Porsche aquiring the last of VW at that price or even near it. Last time I looked I thought it was worth 1/12th what it was trading at IMO.

Never try to understand Family Tiffs....

Anyhow they're going for 75% aren't they? With Unions urging everyone else to buy and block.

Was looking at the Porsche holiday house at Zell am See a few months back, it's quite nice.

FT were saying it was also related to Japan potentially cutting rates

So how much do we reckon the rate will cut by here? Another 50bps?

The price is all about a few hedge funds desperately trying to cover short positions. Porsche are presumably getting their own back on short selling by only releasing shares at crazy prices. Something like 5% of VW shares are in freemarket. The rest are held by Saxony and Porker.

It's bonkers because some of the short positions held are enormous.

Seems to me that the 'hedge funds' are running amok and taking the piss with the rest of the world's pensions and investments. Maybe if they were closed down and the people in them did something less dangerous we might all be better off...?

These would be the dangerous hedge funds as opposed to the conservative banks. Remind me as a taxpayer who I've had to bail out?
