Wraps Off New Z-Car

First official look at 370Z

370Z: Can drive on water...?
The first official images of Nissan’s glamorous new Z car have been revealed ahead of its world debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.

The 370Z, named after its 3.7 litre V6 engine, is Nissan’s first ground-up redesign of the 350Z introduced here in 2003.

The company says its new model will be available at dealers from early next year, and full specifications will be revealed on November 19th. Expect pricing to start close to the current model’s £27k in spite of a distinct improvement to the 370Z’s perceived ‘quality feel’.

The pictures reveal a swoopy new style that evokes the classic Zs even more strongly than the outgoing coupe, with an aggressively kicked up window line, powerfully flared wheelarches and striking new light clusters. Other changes include the loss of the current model’s ‘power bulge’ and its side indicators, while the wheels have been upgraded to 19ins alloys – and as the pics show there’s an all new interior.

The car’s overall dimensions appear to have changed too, with a shorter, squatter and wider stance indicating there maybe worthwhile upgrade in dynamic ability. As well as shorter overhangs there has been a reduction in wheelbase and a broadening of the 370Zs track, but we’ll have to wait for factory specs to confirm the details.

The changes have been made possible by the use of a new platform for the latest Z – shared with Nissan’s Infiniti G37 from which the 370Z also gets its V6 powerplant. This engine makes 316bhp in the Infiniti coupe, but previous media speculation has indicated the Z-car might do a little better – perhaps with up to 330bhp.

I think the rear haunches are very 'Z4 coupe' in the way the rear arch flare curves seamlessly into the rear window. Not bad at all smile

I think the 350z looks better! It looks very strange in the top photo. Looks better from behind tho. Not sure about those rear lights, they look like 997 lights which they stretched upwards to make them look different!

Yep, disappointing. Would take the 350Z over this any day. The proportions are all wrong.

Nissan came up with something new and un-conventional when they introduced the 350Z all those years ago. Sadly it seems they've decided to play it safe with the 370 frown

Me too. Looks more sporty and less tank like.

Not what I was expecting; on the back of the sublime GTR that's surely an opportunity missed....
With 350Z prices going through the floor (was offered a 2004 UK car with 40k for £10.5k from a main dealer !) give me one anyday with a truck load of cash for 'tweaks' and/or a second car !

not keen im afraid. whether it will look better in the flesh is another thing though...

the best news is finally the car will have the power it deserves to compete directly with its rivals

The windscreen line ruins it for me. Look's like they slipped when they got to that point. It obviously doesn't, but it looks like it has the aerodynamic abilities of Amy Winehouse.

Looks fantastic. Lovely modern individual Coupe. Way better looking than the GTR and I agree with the Z4 comment.

Good grief - PHers are sometimes so hard to please.

That car is beautiful. A squat, menacing and modern take on the classic Zs of old.

Well done Nissan for producing something that will not melt in the sea of boringness that is now 70% of the cars on the roads of the UK. (Yesy I'm looking at you New Fiesta, Ibiza etc...).
