Megasquirting V6 Cologne Engines
Discussion
Has anyone attempted this? Off the top of my head I'll need to change the throttle butterfly to one that can take a TPS and add a crank sensor, there's provision for a coolant sensor already... the tricky bit will be finding some injectors that will fit the inlet manifold...
Saves me swapping out the anchor this winter and reinventing the wheel. The problem I have after all is with the mechanical fuel injection not the engine itself

The problem there is finding a carb manifold. They only produced a carb version of the 2.3 engine and they are rare as rockinghorse pooh. You do occasionally see manifolds for sale but rarely and for muchos muchos wanga.
You never know this thread might turn into the "megasquirting other engines into a tasmin chassis" thread depending on how much i have to drink over the next few months!

Since all the 2.8s were carb-d on this side of the pond (except TVR - how did they get that emission exception?) they should be findable here. I haven't looked but in addition to the Mustang manifold I think I've seen aftermarket ones too.
But the way my injectors are working it may be an option.

Am I missing something here Iain ?
Surely all the 'standard' 2.8 Granadas were carbed (single twinchoke), giving 135 bhp.
The 2.8i Granada (and Capri 2.8i) had the injection of course, with 160bhp.
The American Mercury Capri 2.8 used a Motorcraft carb, and its engine was similar to that used in the (orrible) 2.8 Mustang...from 1975.
Sorry if I'm barking up the wrong tree, but 2.8 Granada carb manis must be not too scarce ?

Graham, you are quite right. There were thousands of 2.8GL Granadas built all carb models. Thurrock Autos 01708 857883 have a complete engine with carb on ebay for BIN £275 or best offer. Fast road spares sell a brand new Weber jetted to suit for under £200, also on ebay. That seems a lot cheaper than megasquirting which would cost more than the car is worth!
hmmmm, Graham I'm not old enough to remember that far back! Mike, I'm not going to bite! Dave, I spoke to John a while back and he ummed and ahhhed over whether he had one to sell me, I get the impression that unless you have the gift of the gab like the gent who originally had your engine built you don't get very far with John, alternatively maybe I caught him on a bad day.

I dealt with John when I rebuilt the engine in my Wedge, I can't say enough good about him, he knows his stuff too.
Regards,
Chris.

Hi Iain, I met him face to face last week when I dropped my engine off at his place. I must admit it was like talking to a different chap face to face rather than over the phone, so I kinda know where you are coming from. He seems to know these engines inside out though, and I was very impressed with his operation. Anyway, seems my old boat anchor is pretty worn out after 3 seasons and should know today how much wonga he's going to extract out of my back bin to make it all well again. Fingers crossed its going to be in budget.
