So having gone through 8 months of the process of selling we arrived at the exchange date last Friday. We had previously knocked off £10k in August to get the chain back up and running.

On the day before exchange my buyer decides to try and knock us down another £5k because her shares didn't make enough - as if that is our problem! Anyway, we finally agreed to knock it down £1000 and the estate agents were knocking off £2k of their fees and she would just have to find another £2k. When we agreed this with the estate agent, they never called me back to say my buyer had accepted this.

Friday last week we were due to exchange and my buyers solicitors had not taken off the £1000. Exchange didn't happen as time ran out but we exchanged on Monday just gone and again, the £1000 was not taken off.

Just had a call from my solicitors saying that my buyers solicitors had not taken off the £1000 and they were "pulling their hair out". Apparently it appears my buyer and the estate agents didn't bother telling anyone about ther reduction. MOOHHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I asked my solicitors if there was anything her sols could do about it (i.e. any come back on us) but she said no, so I said tough luck to my buyer and I now hope my buyer is having as st a day as I did when she was trying to knock us down!!! I feel like justice has been done.

The trials and tribulations of buying and selling eh? hehe

When we bought our first house some six years ago I got worried because the house prices were going silly, and the sellers seemed to be stalling. I e mailed my wife from my ship offshore and told her to offer another £5k, just to keep the sellers on track.

At the exact same time I clicked to send the e mail to her, I received one from, telling me the sellers solicitors had just phoned and asked if we could go an extra £2k, because the house they were buying had put their price up.

The timing could not have been any better, saved me 3k. biggrin
