Hi All,

Not long ago our esteemed leader told us we could all have free cavity wall and loft insulation...

anyone any ideas on how to go about getting hold of this? or is it only available to the dolemites and the pikeys?

If it makes any difference i'm in Sheffield

Cheers

Dan

I suspect you've got to be over 85, with savings of less than 50p, and you'll get half a roll, delivered next July...

Free to the benefit cheats, the old and the poor. Im presuming because you have a computer and the internet non of you are any of these. I think we the working population get a discount but there has always been discounted schemes floating around.

To be honest it isn't that expensive Homebase have buy one roll get one free each roll is only like a fiver you could do a pretty decent job of a diy attempt at the loft for 50 quid. Don't think you can do diy cavity insulation, wouldn't recommend anyone drills holes in their walls.

Both my parents work and we had it done in our whole loft, Bungalow so quite large.

We did have to raise the floor height by screwing on extra battons but it was still free in the end.

My folks had this done last year - totally free.

... and no they're not pikeys. Never had a day out of work in their lives. Retired now

5 bedroom house - wouldn't surprise me if the majority of people who take advantage of this are those who could probably afford it themselves.

OH has advised me that it may be area specific - can't be bothered to check. If you're in the NE - North Tyneside then tell anyone you know who's retired.

I got a flyer in the post from the 'Energy Saving Trust' they say free impartial advice (don't know who funds them). I had been thinking of having cavity wall insulation fitted anyway, so tried to phone them for an approved local installer. Tried to get through for days, I held for ages then left a message and they didn't come back to me. I kept trying and finally got through, a really fed up voice on the other end asked what local authority I was in, took my name address etc. That was it. I have not heard any more, more than a month has passed. I'm not retired or on benifit so I guess they think beacause I don't want something for nothing, I can pay the fuel prices and don't need cavity insulation!

Had my house cavity wall insulated a couple of years ago through British Gas (and I'm not a BG customer!). Cost about £200. Not free, but very heavily subsidised. Well worth doing, we've still not really put the heating on , I think its just been put on for an hour 3 times so far this Autumn. I think it keeps the place cooler in the summer as well.

£112 for detached property, very heavily subsidised. Made an enormous difference. Only put heating on this morning because SWMBO said it looked cold.

Got mine for free and no i am not a dole scrounger.

So to the story:

back in the Jan of 2006 i asked my gas company to fit it under the govs reduced scheme, they came and looked and i heard nothing ever again. About 9 months later and getting cold again i wrote to my MP saying that my gas company was profiteering by ignoring its customers and the governments guidelines on reducing carbon footprints. So she wrote to them and after a few days i had a call from them asking me for a time to re-inspect the house.

We arranged it and it was inspected then after a few months nothing, so i wrote an email to them and CC'd the MP. it read along the lines of having heard nothing from you for a couple of months i feel that you are still failing the government on your assistance to reducing the carbon footprint and are only interested in the profits from my poorly insulated home even though you have come and told me i need the insulation.

Should you find the time to install the insulation after receiving this email you WILL be paying the full price and i will pay nothing. Please respond to this email if you wish to proceed to with the install.

Well they rang me thanked me for the email and arranged a date for the install. And it all took less than 1/2 a day was great the house is warmer but then i get a bill.

I rang the person that arranged the install and asked them to re-read the email i sent and to read it to me over the phone, they did and i paid nothing.

end of story..

Regards

Allanv
