Engine value???
Discussion
Due to a recent purchase, sometime before spring, I will be selling my lowly 4.0 engine.
I have seen the 500 engines fetch 3k'ish, and I know it's not worth that, but what would be a fair price for the motor?
It will be complete with ecu(MA Chip),loom ,basically everything less the exhaust manifold and induction pipe upto the AFM.
Who will give me £1.50???

It might be worth dropping TVR Moneypit a PM Antony. His engine expired last year and he will have done all the homework on sourcing a replacement so should know your engines value.

Pop the heads Ant before you sell it, cant see the pre-cats being 'bog std LR'. Good heads, pocketed pistons, high comp are all quite desirable 'n expensive bits. The v8 site would probably give you a better idea of what it or the bits are worth then.
I hear you have even practiced the procedure

Good idea Spend, fancied selling it from the car if you know what I mean.I hear you have even practiced the procedure

My tales of investigation getting around huh?
I saw an engine out of a '92 range rover advertised as "good condition", 90k miles with service history going for £250 recently. The reason for sale was the car had been converted to diesel. The sale included everything changed, so as well as engine, there was the radiator, the ECU, power steering pump, alternator, fans etc.
It was 4.2, which I think is the same size as TVR called 4.3. I don't know the real condition, and I don't know whether there are significant differences between the Range Rover version and TVR version.

Interesting answers, hopefully will get a bit more than some of the lower thoughts.....
Dont think a '92 range rover 3.9 for £250 would be making over 200 bhp would it?
Would probably be better suited to someone out of the TVR world, kitcar builder for instance.

Not entirely - the RR version has a 93.5 mm bore and 4228 cc, the TVR 4.3 has a 94 mm bore and 4,380 ccBIG DUNC said:

The TVR Power versions were quite different - higher compression; polished, ported and balanced heads; different cam profiles obviously exhaust manifolds etc. Most if not all 4.3s I've seen have O-ringed heads among other things. Some are Big Valves even if they haven't been ordered or designated as such.

But if it is just a 4.0, how different, or special are they?
This point has recently been discussed here:http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

) if it is a 4.5 or 4.6.... it will be a cracking engine! It would cost as much as you paid to just get the balancing work done I reckon.
