Switched to hard top recently on my S1 (1998). It has, however, a hard time keeping the water out when parked in heavy rain. The water gets in because the rubber seal along the top of the door windows isn't forming a tight seal.
So can the windows be adjusted to form a better fit? (There is no problem with the soft top). Or should the seals be replaced? To my knowledge the hard top is OEM - this is my first year of ownership....!
Cheers

The windows can be adjusted.

Depending on the cause / area thats leaking you can make two adjustments on the S1.

The easiest is for raising the height of the window in the fully closed position which you do by removing the window winder handle and door card, then you'll see a silver concentric shaped disk, if you loosen it and turn it it changes the stop height of the window (temporarily bolt the winder handle back on and test it in a few different positions).

The other cruder adjustment you can make affects the lateral position of the top of the window so it leans further in to or away from the centre of the car, you can adjust this a little bit by loosening the screws on the underside of the door (likely to be rusty) and (with the door car removed to allow access to the window channels) shift the channels closer to or further away from the car.

take the opportunity to spray some silicone spray on the window channel felt guides and grease on the winder mechanism while the door cards off to avoid stuck windows.

You should be able to get a pretty water tight seal with a hard top - just get used to getting soaked every time you open the door in the rain or open the window in the rain due to the lack of window gutter!
