Morning all,

My Mk3 golf 1.8 GL has developed a misfire over the past year or so and the misfire has become progressively worse. The misfire is most obvious at idle and seems to improve with rpm.

Recently though the car struggles to idle, but again, as soon as it gains RPM (with a bit of difficulty) it seems to run better/fine. I've also noticed that the car "baulks" initially when I pull away.

I have replaced the HT leads, fitted new plugs but no joy. The old plugs are all the same colour greyish brown.

The car has done 135k miles. It is and the end of it's life? I was wondering if it could be related to poor oil pressure not opening the hydraulic valves properly at idle? (and I'll quickly add that I am not a mechanic!)

Any ideas please - the car is due for MOT, TAX, service, insurance and I am unsure if it is worth throwing money at it - or better to scrap?

Many thanks
