348 De Cat Issue
Discussion
I've had some decat pipes made for my 1993 348tb - i tried to fit them a few weeks ago but they wouldn't go over the sleeve on the manifold. The person fitting them said he could cut out the sleeve but i was worried that the exhaust would then blow under acceleration / deceleration.
My mate has a 93 348ts and has had the same pipes made and they fit fine.
Has anybody had this issue before ?
The guy i know who made the pipes supplies to some big exhaust companies and has never had any issues.
My car is a late 93 with the wider track from the factory but i don't think it has the 320hp engine because it hasn't got the higher plenums.

When I fitted mine they were an absolute bugger get on right. Fitted ok at the manifold end, but getting the exhaust to line up and slide on was a nightmare.
I'll see if I can pop round over the weekend and have a look to see if there's anything noticeably different on your car. Plus, I still need to see your new steering wheel.
Oh btw: had mine MOT'd a few weeks ago with the decats on. Passed fine
Emissions certificate says it's tested as a non-catalysed car.

John said he can fit them for me but hes not a mechanic so i'm not too keen to have the
manifold messed with.
Do you reckon its worth asking the bloke who fitted yours to have a go at mine ?
Even though the cats that are on are hollowed out i still reckon the proper pipes will be
louder.
Yours is definately louder than mine.

It's very odd that the problem was at the manifold end. On mine that was just a line up and clamp job.manifold messed with.

Er, I am the bloke who fitted mine!
I did have access to a ramp and full workshop facilities at the time though.simonigrale said:

Both my original cats were hollowed out too, but putting a proper set of decat pipes on made a hell of a difference louder.
Yours is definately louder than mine.

I'm doing a ghost walk in Derby tonight with the Mrs organised by some bloke off the tele ( DON'T ASK !!! )
Pop round tomorrow night if you want i should be in after 6 cos i'm at work - i didn't realise you were the De Cat king !
The steering wheel is awesome mate especially with the spacer - you need one in your life it feels like the whole suspension has been changed. The car feels like a single seater to drive now.
