Can someone quickly try...

to see how easily your S1,2or3 can pull away in 1st without giving it any throttle just after you start her up? Sounds like a weird thing to ask, but as my throttle cable broke last week, & i can't move her out of the garage to try and repair it on my own, i will need 2 people to help push her out, then back in! It's a small garge, and there isn't much room just outside either!
But i don't want to try this & then find she won't go back in! As it's a block of garages & i would be blocking other peoples! It will only be a matter of a few yards that i need to move her.

If anyone could try this & let me know, i would really appreciate it

I cant help I'm affraid as my drive is steep but why dont you open the bonnet and either wedge something under the throttle arm so you get about 2000 rpm and it should be dead easy or tie a piece of string to the throttle arm and have a hand throttle to get out and in the garage

If I get home today at a reasonable time from work I will have a go for you. On a cold start my car idles at 1500 to 1800rpm which if you slip the clutch slightly I am sure you should be able to pull away in first gear, anyway I will do my best tonight although next door has young children so if I get home too late it will have to be tomorrow.

Hi Tony, I can tell you that you can move the car on tickover, feed the clutch in and she`ll move. Incidentally my cable snapped last night, I`ve only just put the car away on a tickover.

You can push the car one-handed up about a 10% slope without any great difficulty if you use the right technique, although on steep slopes it's an extremely slow process. If you do want to be sure you can drive it in, you can set the revs as high as you like by wedging something under the throttle stop. It only needs a scrap of cardboard etc. As long as the engine will run you will definitely be able to get enough torque to drive it into the garage. And if the engine won't run and you get stuck and you can't push it because you broke both your arms, you have the last ditch solution of cranking it in on the starter motor.

Thanks a lot guys for the help, i have talked a mate into helping me look at it tomorrow night.

he said his cable went on his striker not long ago when he was at Castle Coombe, and a shop there sold loads of useful bits for connecting cables..

Didnt Steve Heath recommend using an electricla connector block to make a temporary repair?
