I received the quarterly NPower bill this morning and I am fed up with them. I had a look on Uswitch and it appears I can save around 40% by switching supplier. However, I always give a meter reading after receiving my bill as I like to pay for what I have used. It looks like the cheapest way to pay is DD but I have heard (and read on here) a lot of people annoyed by the way suppliers work out the amounts.

I do not want to be in a situation where the supplier holds onto a significant and over estimated amount of my money, until the end of year when they get it back, which appears to happen in many cases.

Is this a good way of paying or should I stick to paying quarterly?

In the process of switching supplier to Ebico. How you pay does not affect how much you are charged. So you can pay quartely by cash/cheque for what you have used. They have recently put their prices up, but are still cheaper than BG.

Will let you know how it all works out.

I've never had a problem with paying by Direct Debit. First off, you normally get a discount for doing so. Secondly, whenever I have overpaid, companies have always been happy to reduce the payment and refund the balance if it is worthwhile. So I wouldn't worry too much about it to be honest.
