The Gallardo will knock the socks off you each time you open the garage.

It handles very, very well. The in gear acceleration is not great, but will hit 200mph.

It's expensive to run, 2-3 times what the Porsche has cost you.

If you like attention get the Lambo, otherwise enjoy one of the best value performance cars there is.

Never in a million years a 200mph car the Gallardo?

Stick with the GT3 or get the Lp560-4 which is quite a machine.

best,
adam

3 times more expensive just had brakes and pads on gt3 £1,500 front at opc, which was expensive, but how about the quality of Lambo build, does it squeak or rattle dealer back up etc.
I've had the 996 tt bot man and tip good cars but something missing from the driving experience,so the gt3 i awesome different league from turbo, but is the Gallardo on another level or will i wish i'd kept the gt3 which to be honest is really peerless for the money.

Drive the Gallardo and you will know, it's not that much faster but more of an event. Costs are managable on the G!

Well technically no, but near as makes no difference. Relatively, the Lambo does about 10mph more top end compared to the gt3. The 5ltr engine is actually good for a lot more according to people in the know....

Personally i'd had preferred lower top speed and more in gear performance. I haven't driven a GT3 but I would be suprised if you found the Lambo wanting in that department. However, it's not something I want to track TBH. Its really a quick GT car rather than a sports car at the base level. If you are after an other track car you'd be looking at the SL.

I just had the small annual service + 2 rear tyres and that was £3.7k. Brakes are expensive but you can use Audi RS parts, which are the same apart from a small detail which makes no functional difference. They are less than 1/2 the price. Lambo HW have been very good to me and always point out the relative value of stuff I have done and have frequently told me not to buy certain Lambo stuff as it is a waste of money. Lambo's are not cheap.

Build quality is excellent IMO. Up there with early Porsches in the main. There are a few plastic bits that are crap, but Lambo can supply carbon fibre versions at vast expense.

I've got a 997 TT and drove a Galliardo spyder a few weeks ago... however, my impression was that this was not a very well cared for example (sale or return at a bentley dealership) - engine light was on and off, some trim missing, steering not straight, idle up and down.....

So I can't confidently say this comparison is a good one - but then maybe the drive on it was no worse than a good one - who knows...

My impressions....

BRILLIANT engine - so linear, seems to rev forever (coming from a 55 AMG supercharged, and 997 turbo, thats probably why, so you may disagree)

Noise - awesome, sounds fabulous - but then the 997 TT has no volume so that's probably why...

Handling - not as good as my turbo, steering felt very heavy and detatched - far too many turns needed compared to my turbo

Brakes - the spring on the brake is really very difficult to get used to - it feels like a heavy clutch pedal - as a result of this I think, I felt the brakes had no feel

Gearbox - I drove the E- Gear - VERY jerky - not smooth at all for slower driving - great for hammering it everywhere I'm sure - but not comfortable when in town....

Build quality - never felt as solid as the turbo

However - as I explained, I think I drove a poorly looked after car, so these traits may not be common in these cars...

All in all my decision was, based on that car - the Turbo is a much better car.... BUT given another opportunity I'd like to drive a good car to make sure...

I've never driven a GT3, but you also have a 996 Turbo? so hopefully you can relate to some of the above

Engine is drive-by-wire so ECU can pay silly buggers with throttle bodies, also if not looked after the throttle bodies stick due to poor oiling. This can cause idle issues. Engine light is due to the overly strict emissions system. A good blast normally clears it. Turning circle is spectacularly st.

thanks for your post,i owned 2 996 tt one tip one manual tip had dms and exhaust mod however standard manual was in another league compared to tip996.
You have to try gt3 it will blow your mind, just press the sport button and rev to 8,000rpm.
The Gallardo you drove sounds like a dog, intreting to read your comments

My 997 TT is tip, call me a p***y! lol

I actually drove the manual and liked the tip better, I have every intention in a year or two, to take advantage of a 997 gt3 rs at some point (just love the big ass!)... I must admit that the turbo lag is a little tiresome at times, and really loved the power delivery on the Lambo, so hopefully the GT3 would be to my liking too!

I actually did think the Lambo I drove was a dog, it looked it, and drove it (I hope the rest are much better)...

1 Major factor in my decision to get a new 997 TT over a used Lambo or F430 was the running costs, as mentioned before, the service intervals are far more frequent, and each one far more pricey than we enjoy the luxury of having.....

If you want a bit more attention in your car BTW - get a muffler and cat bypass! wink

the tip in the 997 is a real step forward from the tip996 tt which was terrible it ruined the car.
The exhaust is great sounding but not to loud.
My problem is that the POLICE HeLIcop likes to follow me about as i live on the flight path back to its base,so although the cat bypass is a good idea i'd decline the mod.
Must admit to loving the look of the Lambo, but the costs of running may rule it out.

GT3 wonderful car I am sure but any Lambo is on a whole different level in terms of presence, looks, noise, event - not really a fair comparison given initial price point / ongoing cost

GT3 is far more a driver's car than the Lambo, which has terrible brake feel and that stupid flattened steering wheel, and is too heavy.

Terrible brake feel and heavy steering I 100% agree with from the one I drove....

Was it just me who thought the brake pedal fealt like a clutch pedal, with a really strong spring back?
