I have been meaning to write about this for some time now but it kept slipping my mind to post it. A few weeks ago the local cable station was playing An American Werewolf in London in lieu of October. I remember seeing the movie many years ago, I was probably around 14 the last time I saw it.

Anyway, just as I remembered, the ending has got to be the worse ending in history. It literally just, well, ends. And then to add insult to injury they start some zaney music on the first roll of the credits!

Someone please tell me you have noticed how rushed the ending was. It was as if the studio ran out of time or money, maybe both and had 10 seconds to shoot the final scene or something.

And the music, I just dont get the music. Its good music, but not for a soundtrack to a werewolf movie. It is just a very strange ordeal, overall.

Do you agree?

So you do not find it very odd in the abrupt way the movie just ended?

It was a good movie I thought, entertaining, but my God, the ending. horrific.

the music made the change sequence for me, ending was a little rushed but I think all werewolf films back then had pretty predictable endings anyway, for me they were always about how good the change was from man to beast & the stalking & slaughtering the animal did before the end.

Always think of this film when, 'I see a pale moon arising.....'

whent to see the pub in Wales where it was filmed too, slept in the car on the welsh moors the night before for effect smile, Pub turned out to be someones house that they converted for the scene, see a huge tree trunk outside the pub in the film? it's a polystyrene mould covering a telephone box hehe

Fantastic film & one of my all time favourites yes

IIRC the soundtrack used all tracks with MOON in them... non? I could be making that up, its just something I seem to recall about the film. Personally its a childhood favourite of mine, not least for Ms Agutters performance. smile

Yes, the change scared the hell out of me then and still does. Awesome effects! Very scary!! Especially the scene in the subway!

Lucky for getting to go to the pub in the movie! I would love to have experienced that!

So it was just someone house, they werent serving anything there?

Yeh, just a normal dwelling, we just looked up the location in the credits & off we went, the lady whose house they converted was really excited to show us round, we were just stood on teh green reconstructing things & she came out to talk to us thumbup

this was a fair while ago, 10 years come to think of it eek not sure if the same person would still be living there now....

PS - subway scene for me too, incredible tension

I think that is really great!! Certainly a story for the kids one day after showing them the movie. Did you snap any pictures in front of it?

Back to the subway scene: The shot that gets me scared out of my wits is the one from above, showing the man on the escalator and the werewolf one all fours, then it pans out to next scene.

This movie when I was younger is the reason that werewolfs are my second biggest (fictional) fear.

I have 3 fiction scenarios that if ever became real I know I would be stiff with fear and probably drop dead of a heart attack the moment I was confronted.

1. the dead returning to life
2. werewolves
3. any sort of doll(s) coming to life

Vampires, no way. If vampires were real and I encountered one, I'd be like, "bite me. please!" woohoo

Well he got shot. I am not sure how else they could have ended it but only the actual 'shooting' was abrupt as you put it.
IIRC it does not end abrubptly, the whole ending includes carnage in London involving buses and heads falling off, in fact its a pretty long ending as endings go.

yes that is correct, he gets shot and then BAM it ends, cue wacky music better left for the end of Back to the Future. It could have maybe panned out and above the city, or maybe the girl collapses into the doctors arms, something, maybe show the people of the city scratching their heads with confusion as to what they have just seen, anything, just 30 seconds longer of anything.

Im sorry I may have missed something. what do you mean when you say IIRC?

Love that film totally. The soundtrack is great and bad moon always takes me back to it smile

Video and sounds

The music all the way through was meant to be fun, the whole film is tongue in cheek.
