Speedo error code 21 !!

Hi Folks. I recently removed my Speedo/ LCD display to test another repaired one, but since i put it back i'm getting an 'Error code 21 Speedo Centre'. On ignition start up the speedo dial flicks round much further than normal then settles in the 5 O'clock position. I haven't yet tested to see whether it turns on the move. I've tried resetting the zero position from the Factory page on the LCD but even though the rev counter can be changed the speedo doesn't respond. I've since rotated the needle by hand to the zero position, but the error code still comes up on ignition.
I've also tried unplugging/reconnecting it but to no avail. The repaired unit works fine.
Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks.

Hello Varleyhyd,
I've tried adjusting it via option 8 on the LCD but it won't move that way. The shaft from the stepper motor to the needle has a flat blade on it which had detached itself from the shaft, so i've removed it. Can't see any other obvious problem.

The speedo mechanism must have some sensor to know what position its at (and thats the main reason the needles flick during start-up to get to a known position).

I`ve no idea what sort of sensor they use but the simpliest will be a microswitch at min/max points to a potentiometer on the neddle shaft.

Until this is fixed the system will not know where the needle is..

Jim, you're a star. There appears to be some sort of light beam sensor, which is cut by the internal dial which had fallen off. I've since re-connected that dial and the speedo works as normal agin.

Getting close now and ready to final print and costs.

Just need a couple more pages, now my engine is in bits it bits , failed oil pump rotor woodruff key.
