I am looking at buying a S3. My options currently are either the S3 or a BMW 330 Ci Sport.

I would appreciate any feedback on the S3. Is it worth going for the 225BHP over the 210BHP?

Finally anything one should particularly look out for?

Thanks in advance.

I'd suggest looking here for more information on the S3 (go to the 8L chassis section for a buyers guide & loads of information)

my friend has an 03 reg s3 which is a lovely car, it is for sale now though and the 225 version will be more desireable and are newer and i belive they were 210bhp up until a 52 reg. he wants 10grand as it is mint and highly specced and very nice but there are cheaper ones around. personally i can see what people say about slight lack of steering feel but it grips and goes very well and is a lovely car.

his has only ever required coil packs under warranty but other than that has been faultless.

My 2002 51-plate is a 225. The other benefit of the later cars is the interior & exterior facelift...a much nicer finish IMHO.

Facelifts occured in late 2000, these can still have the 210bhp (AMK code engine), the 225 (BAM code engine)were phased in gradually stqring in approximately mid 2001 so the best way to check is on the metal stamp on the join between the engine block & head itself.

I'd have the 330Ci any day, propper drivers car and Rear wheel drive.

S3 is fun, but after all its a jump up golf.

I've done a few miles in my S3 now, I'd say they're pretty good all round cars. I think the pre / post facelift and which engine is just down to personal choice as to which you prefer more than anything else. I like mine as it misses the emissions based crap but could see why people would want the facelift.

Be warned they're not cheap to run if they get driven and bits do wear out, the 330 would probably be cheaper to run.
