G-Werks, Littlehampton
Discussion
A huge thumbs up to Rob and Darren of G-Werks for customer service above and beyond the call of duty.
I called them a week or so ago looking for suggestions for a replacement suspension set-up for my newly aquired Golf vr6. They suggested a Weitec kit, but it turned out that delivery would be a while and I needed something right away. Rob called me back to tell me they'd sourced an uprated Bilstein set-up from a supplier, and that it would be sent to a local (to me) garage that I'd arranged to fit it.
However, later on when I saw the dampers, they appeared to be the std OE spec. stuff, available at less than £40 a corner from any motor factors. I emailed G-Werks with the news, fully expecting an electronic shrug by way of a reply, if indeed I got any reply at all.
However Rob's response was outstanding. I received an immediate phone call apologising and promising to find out what had happened. They got hold of the Bilstein area rep – the one who told them the kit I’d been sent would be ok – and demanded to know what was going on. And when an hour later I was told by the local garage that the springs that had been supplied were also wrong, G-Werks must have really bent the Bilstein rep’s ear. Because not only did they get Bilstein to offer to replace the OE dampers (by this stage the front of the Golf was in pieces so the stuff supplied was already on the car) with a pukka (£450) B12 kit, but G-Werks also offered to fit it without charge if I could get the car to them in a couple of days.
After leaving the car with them in Littlehampton on Friday, I spent the day convinced I’d get a phone call with some sort of complicated explanation as to why they couldn't follow-up on their promise. But there was nothing until this morning, when Darren called to let me know the car was ready. The workshop and parking outside was full of tastefully modded VAG product, and I collected the car without problem. The only charge to me? £50 for a replacement rear tyre; they’d pulled a huge nail out of one of mine and it couldn’t be repaired.
Just the 200m across the rough car-park was enough to show the car was hugely better, and the 2 mile run to the West Beach café in Littlehampton convinced me – it was completely transformed. Gone was the feeling of huge uncontrolled weight across the front axle, and yet the ride was better than the std set-up, even on small bumps and undulations. The mk3 VR6 will never be one of one of the greatest handlers, but now mine is a vastly better drive.
Now the only thing G-Werks had really done wrong was to believe their supplier when it said it would send me an uprated Bilstein spring/damper kit for the car.
Its great to be able to unreservedly recommend a specialist supplier; if you're within reach and want a VAG product improved or fixed give them a call. www.g-werks.com

PS Other than being a satisfied customer there is no link between G-Werks and I.

I thing the G in G-werks relates to the superchargers on VW's. i.e G60 and G40.
Correct, they are well known for precision re-builds of the G-lader, but are capable of handling other VAG cars. When I was there a RS4 was getting the treatment.SS7
PS The owner drives a very nice looking 964 on 18" BBS LM's
