400SE Headlight Bulbs
Discussion
I'd be interested too. I know it's a bit of a faff on the round light cars, you have to get the pods up and take out the lenses from the front. My guess it that it'll be the same on 400SE's (or SX's). To get the pods up turn on the lights and then pull the headlamp motor fuses or disconnect the battery.
I know that on 350's and i assume 400's (although not checked mine yet!) there is a wheel attached to the underside of the motor/pod housing that allows you to raise and lower the light pod by hand. No need for having electrics on at all.
I'm thinking that as per the 350 you undo the two bolts holding in the lamps, then remove to replace bulb. The difficult bit i would think is getting the lamp unit back in again so you can bolt it back ??

Recently did this.
Pop lights up pull battery lead. Unscrew four screws and pop light out. It is on an in line connector. Pull it apart releasing the catch. Easier to work on the bench or kitchen table. Then it is in a sandwich. Have to follow your nose here. Mine had a rubber bung over the bulb that needed the sandwich split. The old nut and bolts had rusted up on mine so will need replacing. Around 4 mm? Or 3,5 not sure of the equivalent BA they were. That will get the back off so you can remove the boot and unclip the bulb.
Anyway, once out it should be clear. Might be doable if you have no boot without all that hassle. Took the time to apply rust eater and paint the inner bits where required as well. Copper ease on the new bolts where required.
Some small nut and bolts before you start.
I think.
Now, putting it back together is straight forward but the connectors might be a tad tarnished and will need attention. The connector on the bulb was skanky as well so I replaced them. Got them from vehicle wiring products. Up to you.
