What are the procedures for using the key fob and immobiliser tag thing.
I have used the fob to open/lock the door and to start the engine.
The alarm never makes any sound on activation or deactivation nor does it ever seem to come on if deliberately set off.
Does the alarm have different modes like other cars.

If you have the standard system, the indicators should flash twice when you lock the car (and arm the alarm) and flash once when you unlock the car (and disarm the alarm). The alarm takes about 30 seconds to set after being activated.

The siren is triggered by air movement - forget to switch of the alarm when you wash the car and the moment you start to wash the rear window it will remind you and your neighbours how loud the siren is while you chase indoors to get the keys

Sounds like there might be a bit of a problem. However, my (standard) alarm usuallly makes no noise on setting or unsetting, unless the boot is open . I wondered why it had started making a noise until I needed something out of there .

I was doing something in the garage last week and as I walked by the back of the car the alarm was triggered.

Christ, it's loud. Jumped outta me skin I did.

I have to be quick when I open the garage door, otherwise it's earmuffs time.

There should be some noise - the "thunk" of the door solenoids anway. And there should be flashes from the indicators too. If not then your alarm isn't working. And since post-1995 Chimaera don't have keyholes to lock and unlock the doors, if your alarm isn't working then your doors aren't locking either.

Fear not, I was ignoring the obvious bits. But when the boot was open the alarm beeped at me when I set it .

I think you will find that convertibles have been fitted with microwave sensors for some years now. Air movement sensors do not get on with hoods too well.
