Hi, got my Mk1 5 for a couple of months, loving it but that for some reason the car bounces along when riding over the smallest bump.........yesterday when i went over a car park hump, it crashed right down and bottomed out and lost power. Today was told by the garage that the clip connecting the exhaust came off.

I'm a poor student so wondering if there is anything i can do, on a low budget, to firm up the suspension. I was told by the garage that I could have some kind up of tie-up (not sure if that's the right name) which could do the job, as well as allowing me to adjust the ride height. But it's 700 quid, my car was only bought for 3k! So anything cheaper and more effective will be good. thanks in advance

Sounds to me like your shocks are knackered. If so the springs will more than likely be getting very tired too.
Keep an eye in the classified sections of PH, MX-5 OC Forum, MX5 Nutz and ebay for replacements. You could post a wanted add on these forums too as many people fit uprated suspension then leave the old gear gathering dust in their garages.
Even completely new suspension (shocks & springs) don't need to cost anywhere near £700 eek (mine cost me around £500 fitted!).

I have a complete set of perfectly servicable standard shocks and springs in the garage. Brand new seems to be somewhere around £70 per corner for shocks. Make me an offer if you want.
